Current 2022 First Class meal service status -- [NOTE - all D1 flights, domestic and international, receive hot meal service]. Current FC meal service consists of cold meal boxes with the exception of JFK-SEA and BOS-SEA/SFO FC marketed flights which receive hot meal service. Some limited routes (seemingly hub-to-hub and certain high-profile routes also receiving plated meal service). This includes both domestic and international DL FC marketed flights. All flights over 900 miles which depart before 9PM (scheduled) receive meal service in FC. In addition, flights over 2300 miles will receive meal service in FC for departures after 9PM.

Delta confirmed in a press release that Hot Meals will return in March 2022

Not withstanding the official Delta press releases and what the itinerary shows for "meal", reviews have shown that the flights to or from the following airports continue to have sad boxes and no actual meals:
PHX*, IAD, DFW, EYW, AUA, AUS, OAK, ELP, ABQ, TUS
*Narrowbody flights only

I’m confused by this post. According the wiki DL only serves hot meals in DL1 flights and select FC domestic flights (JFK-SEA, BOS-SEA/SFO), but yet here’s examples from ATL-LAX and LAX-LIH with hot meals. Did something change?

Yes, according to Delta's recent press releases - and not DL.com - "select routes" greater than 900 miles will see hot meals return. In this instance, "select" is a combination of Delta's mercy and airports that have their s*** together.

Thanks for the update as I thought I'd read somewhere that hot meals were coming back to routes over 900 miles during meal hours. Last week we flew JFK-STT at 8:30am which is almost 4-hours and would have very much appreciated a hot breakfast. This route is well over 900-miles. Is JFK an airport that doesn't have its s*** together?

With all the D1 flights out of JFK I would suspect there's no excuse why they couldn't cater actual meals vs those pathetic boxes. The only box option they had was a cranberry bread with a couple blueberries and a single strawberry and some sort of whipped cream. More like a breakfast appetizer than a full breakfast.

Probably same as my AUA flight....excuse is they don't give meals unless BOTH the Destination & Arrival is able to cater. Ridiculous logic

This would make sense given my 63 segments since March 1 and 0 hot meals. There seem to be only a handful of stations catering actual F meals.

We should start a list in the wiki of stations that are serving hot meals (if it's even consistent).

I'm doing LGA-DEN and MSP-DCA in first in a few weeks during meal times (breakfast and dinner respectively).

Of course they like the fake meat. It has 30% more calories and 500% the sodium of a regular meatball or burger. You can look it up, That stuff is NOT healthy.

Just had the red snapper. It literally tasted like they air fried the red snapper sans any seasoning, threw in some mushrooms, then submerged everything in warm flavorless water. Adding lots of salt and pepper didn’t help.

To anyone else debating getting this. Get something else. Not worth it.

p.s. May upload photo later since I need 5 posts to upload photos apparently..

Quick follow up on this: TATL Westbound MUC-DTW meals offered were "Chicken" and Tortellini. I put Chicken in quotes because that is how it's being presented by the flight attendants. It is in fact Thai Chicken Curry, which is how I think it should be offered.

The pre-landing meal offering were Pizza Twists (BBQ Chicken or Goats Cheese).

Delta (and American/United) are having all kinds of issues with consistent catering. All of the caterers did a lot of cutting expecting COVID to last a lot longer than it did and it is taking a long time for them to hire and expand to cover everything.

I think I saw somewhere that American is going to bring some aspects of catering back in-house in their hubs to do all the issues they are having. Like a lot of other things, this is an industry wide issue that no one has a solution too.

I don't think a single station for a single US carrier has its stuff together if we are being honest but as said, they general rule seems to be that if they can't do proper catering on the out AND back, then no one is getting it.

I know some Fters wont like this, and I am not standing up for the airlines per say, but they are all having a hell of a hard time with staffing. Either they point blank can't get people to work or they are getting new people to work but that area saw A LOT of brain drain at the start of COVID. Just a non catering example, reservations has been a total .... show for a few years now. Delta literally has open positions at every reservation center they have (and I think open work from home spots as well).
But not only do they need bodies, even the people they are bringing in don't know all the little tips and tricks like someone who has been working their for 15-20 years, much less the people who worked there 30+ years that all retired. Frankly the staffing issues thanks to COVID (and some of it due to airlines still thinking they way they thought in bankruptcy) will be felt for a LONG time.

Has anyone flown ATL-VEN D1 lately? I'm wondering if the catering on this route is back up to speed or not. Thanks for any info.
