April 2022: Regional upgrade certificate for 2 diamond / platinum members + 2 companions cleared to Delta One on A330. Outbound ATL -> OGG (Maui) and return OGG -> ATL. From what I'm told this is the hardest route to upgrade in USA.

Booked 6 months out - outbound cleared right away. Return cleared 2 days before. Quite a frustrating process as I would have paid to lock in the upgrade and return the certificates but no option to do that was ever offered not for my lack of trying (I called Delta probably 15 times in 6 months to try and give them money, but to no avail). I felt more like I was babysitting this request that rewarded for loyalty.

No, both pax have the higher priority. Otherwise what would be the point?

Is this common practice to only upgrade two or more on the same ticket if and only if there are seats together? I didn't think so, and was wondering if they simply were not going to clear anyone off the list.
It's common for GAs to mess things up, not necessarily in any predictable way.

That

That used to be how it worked 2 or 3 years ago.

MIA-BOS Wednesday 4/27, rollover DM, L fare, 737-800. Cleared to Comfort+ shortly after booking. F was fully booked when check-in opened, then 1 seat opened up at some point (being sold as full J, $1226). I was #3 on the list. I decided to apply an RUC and was #1 on the list. At some point, the 1 seat was sold and I remained #1 for 0 seats.

I just got back from a western swing.

4/26/22: CLE-MSP (E-175) and MSP-LAS (739): purchased F through AMEX cash & miles. Both flights were sold out in F at time of boarding.
4/28/22: LAS-SLC (321), on a T fare, #28 of 57 for 5 F empties; SLC-BZN (319), was #1 for 0 empties
4/30/22: BZN-SLC (321), got UG'd 27 hours before departure; SLC-LAS (321), got UG'd at 5 day window
4/30/22: LAS-ATL (D1 763 with 34 lie flats); tried to use RUC, was #2 out of 60 for 0 seats; ATL-CLE (320), was #2 out of 14 for 0 F seats

It is getting tougher and tougher to get upgraded. At least on the final leg of the trip, two flight attendants came up to me near the end of the flight to thank me for being a 3 MMer.

We later fell to 7 and 8 for 0 as someone bought F in the last two or so hours. Also something strange happened in C+ where the two open seats were given to a couple in the standby list instead of those on the upgrade list. Who knows.

that happened to me (earned diamond + reserve) on a LGA to BOS flight last Sunday and never got a C+ upgrade. It’s been a while since I bought and flew MC but it was a last minute trip. Would’ve said something to the gate agent about it if the flight was longer than 30 min.
