Booking before new GUC rules

How many of us are looking to book trips this year with our GUC before 2/1/22 when the rules change??

Already booked 4 TATLs, 3 with MrsBHammy (also DM with 8 GUCs) while trying to burn my 12.

I was all set, but COVID will destroy at least two 2022 trips - Switzerland + HKG - and not sure I can organize replacement trips in time.

I wonder if the acronym should be changed to PSUC after 2/1….

I had been sitting on mine hoping to use them on a TPAC sometime, but haven't been able to lock in any actual dates for a trip.
So as a fall back, I'm trying to book them for the TATLs I know I'm taking but on the Eastbound/Redeye leg only to get some sleep.
Feels wasteful to me to use them unnecessarily on daytime 7 hour flights.

I've already cancelled 2 booked trips and only have 1 remaining.

Worst case is that I have to take the RDM's which would have been the fallback position for the CB's anyway.

I mean, the G describes the route, not the seat -- they aren't called D1UCs right now -- but First-Upgrade-Certificate describes what they've done to these...

I'm a little confused, for my 2022 benefits is says select by 2023, but with the new rules it seems like they expire at the end of the corresponding status year, which would be 2022.

Should I select them now and book some GUC flights while the upgrade is still favorable? Are they changeable after being booked?

Certificates for the 2022 year selected on/after 01-Feb-22 will expire on 31-Jan-23. You can wait until the last day to select them (not that you would really want to, but I guess you could wait to choose something else).

Well, this sucks! I just realized that I have 2021 Diamond CB's 0 of 3 selected, so I have to choose and use by 1/31/22?? PLEASE tell me this isn't the case...

For 2021, you have to choose by 1/31/22, but as a onetime exception, the 2021 choice will expire on 1/31/2023. So, you have until next year to use bother 2021 and 2022.

Are you sure? I'm in the same boat - I still have some 2021 benefits to choose. But, example, it says if I choose Skyclub access, it will expire on 1/31/22 if choosing for 2021 benefits.

I just randomly found it on the website! But that also means that the 2022 benefits will also expire on1/31/23 and not a full year after you choose them, so you can choose anytime. Seems that there will be a glut of these floating around this year and being used up, not a bad thing IMO. Since I like warm destinations, looks like I can use GUC's immediate UG to Mexico, Caribbean etc.

Medallion Benefit ExtensionsIn addition to extending 2021 Status, we’ve extended the following benefits:
  • All unused and active Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates that were selected between March 1, 2019 and January 31, 2022 will be extended so they may be booked and flown by January 31, 2023.

As JBJ2435 has pointed out, this is only for the GUC/RUC certificates. I'm not sure SkyClub membership was extended.
