SkyWest is receiving 16 new E75s from 2022 to 2024 that they're going to put in service for DL Connection. (They were supposed to all arrive in 2022 but the last three were delayed to 2023 & 2024 due to OO's pilot shortage.) All are flying SJK-MAO-SJU-XNA-BOI to get to the US unless otherwise noted. Their seating configuration is 12F/20 C+/44Y. To view the seat map, go to https://www.delta.com/us/en/aircraft/embraer/erj-175 and then click on 76 SEATS-SKW.

SkyWest Orders 16 New E175s for Delta Connection

SkyWest and Delta have reached an agreement for 16 new E175s. The aircraft will be delivered from the factory in 2022 and replace 16 CRJ-900s which SkyWest owns. This will bring SkyWest's Delta Connection ERJ fleet to 87 aircraft and the DCI SkyWest CRJ-900 fleet down to just 24 frames.

Slight nitpick--this will mean there are 87 OO E75s and 24 OO CR9s operating for DL. (See page 12 of OO's quarterly report, which also just came out today, for the current fleet count.) That said, from my perspective, this is good news, as the new OO E75s are really nice and much better than their CR9s.

Mostly they are, but I wish they offered gate check as my roll aboard bag fits, but I worry that the overhead space will be full if I don't board early enough.

And after a lifetime of CR2s, a CR7 or CR9 is very much nice enough for me!

Thanks. Interesting reading that the prorate agreement for the Delta CR2s can be terminated with just 30 days notice.

Does anyone know the exact CR9 ship #s being retired? I was on an OO 2007 built CR9 that was in terrible shape last month.

My best guess would be N800SK-N825SK (note there are some skips in the registrations.) These are the 16 oldest OO-owned CR9s, as N800SK is 15.0 years old, N825SK is 12.5 years old, and just for reference, N826SK is only 2.9 years old.

What are the future plans for Delta Connection?

With SkyWest getting some new birds, is there any insight to Republic getting more E75’s to replace the E70’s that’ll be leaving soon for the AA side?

Every SkyWest CRJ-900 I've been on has been in terrible shape. One even had a *permanent* sign that the FC lavatory was out of order. It's one reason why I hate *this* DeltaConnection carrier with a passion. Somehow the other carriers don't have aircraft in such bad shape IME.

I hope they'll maintain the new aircraft better than they have done in the past.

That is sad, especially since SkyWest used to be the best by far of the regionals.

I don't think they ever recovered from purchasing ASA.

Keep in mind OO is getting rid of 16 CR9s as part of this transaction (or at least they won't be flying for DL anymore), so the net change is 0. As for the question of replacing the E70s they're switching to AA, the whole reason they're doing that is that DL has too many regional jets right now. One of DL's CBAs limits the number of regional jets DL can fly, and that number is based on how many mainline jets they fly. Pre-pandemic, DL had maxed out the number of regional jets they could fly, and when the pandemic hit, DL of course got rid of a whole bunch of mainline planes. Thus, a significant number of regional jets had to be parked to satisfy the CBA and are still parked to this day. All that to say getting rid of these E70s is one step toward unparking the rest of the regional fleet, and thus it's unlikely YX will get more planes flying for DL anytime soon.

I think SkyWest still technically has 100 Mitsubishi SpaceJets on order but who knows if those will actually ever appear.

Delta can have up to 450 regional jets per the pilot contract, they just have to have fewer than 51 seats or be flown by Delta pilots.

I can help you out with that. They will never actually appear.

The first of these 16 planes has been delivered!

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N309SY

No word yet on which CR9 it will replace; we probably won't find that out until 309 enters revenue service.

funny, it's showing E170-200 LR, not E175...
