Current 2021 First Class meal service status -- Current FC meal service consists of cold meal boxes with the exception of JFK-SEA and BOS-SEA/SFO FC marketed flights which receive hot meal service. This includes both domestic and international DL FC marketed flights. Otherwise, only D1 marketed flights receive hot meals. All flights over 900 miles which depart before 9PM receive meal service in FC. In addition, flights over 2300 miles will receive meal service in FC for departures after 9PM.

There have been no official announcements from DL concerning when hot meals will return to FC, however, it is rumored it will return Q1 2022.

I noticed when I search using miles for JFK-SAN one flight shows as D1 but says not available. However when I select cash it shows both as Domestic First Class.

Oddly it's the flight operated by non lie-flat 757 that shows as D1 and the lie flat 757 as Domestic F when I view as a mileage purchase.

I just looked at dummy bookings for Nov 7 - 12 and it's showing First class, not D1. It's possible DL made a change or there's an IT issue with your itinerary. (Fare code is for an F fare, not D for D1)
If you dig into your confirmation there should be a booking confirmation that shows the fare code for your booking.

If DL did sell you a D1 ticket and the flight has changed to a non-D1 service you should reach out and see if there's any compensation. I'm guessing this is more of an IT issue than booing fare issue.

Sorry to take this thread off topic, but it would be different service/catering if it's F vs D1. The good news is that meals are supposed to be back in domestic F by end of September.

EF doesn't show any FC fare filings on JFK-SAN which permit non-stop routings (they all require a connection -- NYC-ATL/DTT/LAX/MSP/SEA/SLC-SAN). The D1 fare filings all require non-stop routing on D1 equipment. Having non-D1 equipment on a non-stop routing is likely confusing the system as there are currently no applicable FC fares for it.

Not sure what dates you looked at, but there are FC fares and DL.com let’s you book SAN-JFK-SAN on aircraft with D1 seats. The underlying base fare shown on DL is F.

I didn’t look at EF. I looked specifically at DL’s own booking engine.

LAX/SFO F Snack

On the A220 last week LAX/SFO and the only snack in F was a Biscoff, is this the new norm?

Yep. Flights under 900 miles usually get the choice of two snacks in F, but occasionally its only one. It used to be only flights under 250 miles that got that treatment (i.e. SEA-PDX). SLC-SEA only had almonds recently. I think I did get two snacks earlier this summer on SFO-LAX. It is despicable how cheap DL is being with their customers.

But D1 aircraft should get D1 fares on JFK-SAN, not FC fares.

Update -- It looks like this is intentional and JFK-SAN is being dropped from D1 routes. There were new fare filings on 8/19 and JFK-SAN route was dropped from FC fare rules Flight Application section at that point. Here is part of modified Flight Application section ("757 200 WINGLETS" is fare rules speak for the 75S model -- not all 757-200s with winglets). Domestic D1 fare rules were similarly modified and JFK-SAN was removed from those as well. Award fare rules still have previous Flight Application sections which is causing some confusion on award searches.

FC fare rules before 8/19

FC fare rules effective 8/19

Here is current full Flight Application section for domestic FC fares. There are similar ones for domestic D1 fares, but the requirements are reversed and these flights are required instead of excluded.

.chicken strawberry salad
SLC-CUN (plane change from A330 to 767-300, barely got to keep FC seats) but 3 meal options, no pre-order. Italian Ham sandwiche, tomato/motz, or chicken strawberry salad. No glassware and wooden utensils. * currently in flight and great staff.

Very similar to the pre-pandemic TATL salad in Y.
