Being widely discussed on pilot forums, etc. that Delta has an aircraft order to announce as soon as tomorrow. Reportedly 7 used A350s (ex-LATAM) and ~29 737-900ER (possibly ex-Lion Air.)

The question is for when. They paid millions not to take LATAM A350's last year and with international travel still pretty much in the toilet, it would make zero sense to commit to used widebodies anytime soon; especially with ongoing new deliveries they can't refuse.

The millions paid for canceling the LATAM airframes is a sunk cost now -- if Delta's current forecast says they need more widebodies, I don't think they will exclude those A350s for the sole reason that they paid not to take them in the past.

If the planes have already gone back to the lessors, it's actually possible Delta could have ended up with net better terms than they had originally by taking them now, since the lessors may be desperate to place them quickly.

Excluding the blocked sensor port on the MAX that lead to the crash, I don't recall Lion Air having maintenance problems. Runway excursions and overruns (of which they are king), are more of a training issue than maintenance. Either way, it's quite easy for a airline to determine if aircraft have been properly maintained; it's why Air India could not get their 777s sold.

Oh yay, dumpster diving for more terrible 739s.
The A350s wouldn't be a bad acquisition to help replace the 777 fleet, at least they come from a reputable airline.

Please, can they reconfigure those 739’s… Give us some more C+ and a midcabin lav, and some better air flow!
