Can't check in: missing ticket?

How much should I worry about this? I'm in Sao Paulo, and I was able to fly down here on my reservation without an issue.

This reservation has been modified like crazy. Originally booked in March of 20 for travel in June of 20. Pushed back to September, then November, then to May/June of this year when I actually flew.

Do you think the airport agents at GRU can handle this?

I would never leave anything to airport personnel. They are often hurried and not good at fixing ticket issues, especially if they involve anything with miles (if that happens to be the case). I would call Delta immediately. It may well be a very long hold. It may only be a case of revalidating the ticket if there was schedule changes since it was last reissued.

While you're waiting on hold, try to find your entire sequence of ticket receipts and look carefully at the most recent one. It will help to identify the problem and know exactly what needs to be fixed. Then check carefully that the agent has fixed all of the problems.

Has there been a schedule change since your outbound flight? You apparently had a valid ticket at that time, at least for all of the outbound segments.

Trying to fix such problems at the airport can be very risky because it might take airport agents a very long time to accomplish if they're even skilled enough to do so. I would assume that DL uses local airport contract agents in Brazil who aren't very familiar with DL's computer systems.

I figured the contract people wouldn't be of much help at the airport.

It is a cash ticket, purchased via Expedia. It was last fully modified back in October by Expedia. The receipt from them shows the ticket number and all flights segments. I know that agent messed things up, because I originally booked basic economy and the new ticket moved me out of BE and into higher fare classes.

There have been numerous schedule changes since, but all for the connection in Atlanta.

Once I'm back at my hotel with better Wi-Fi I'll give them a call.

Edit: They'll call me back in the next five hours...

The schedule changes means your ticket probably doesn't match your currently booked flights.

The ticket and reservation are separate things. The reservation simply holds a seat for you. The ticket pays for it. If the reserved flight changes, the ticket must be reissued.

If you can't find the most recent ticket e-mail, you can look at the ticket receipt on DL.com or in the app, and check the flight numbers and fare class vs. what shows in your reservation. If you can pinpoint the discrepancy, you'll make it quicker/easier for the reservations agent to straighten it out.

I've got everything ready for their call, including the receipt from the site. The DL receipt shows the flights tonight as open, so I'm hopeful.

Does it show the same fare class and flight numbers as show in reservation?

Just looked, no. It's the stupid connection in Atlanta, the flight numbers don't align between the ticket and reservation.

I also missed my call back because they decided to call me back way early, so I'm starting the wait all over again.

I wouldn't worry too much - a couple of years ago I had the same issue with a ticket in SP. It had non matching flight numbers, extraneous flight segments, open jaw, stop overs, the works. At the time they had Delta people in Sao Paulo and they straightened it out, not problem, except a whole bunch of dirty looks from the people in line behind me at check in. Good luck, I am sure it will work out.

I got this message last Thursday on a domestic flight that was upgraded with an RUC. The ticket had not been reissued. Once I got called back, it got fixed PDQ. :)

Took an extra 30seconds to check-in, but I got my boarding passes without issue. (Maybe it was just a document check and IT issue?)

Thanks everyone!

Agent simply reissued the ticket. Reissuing ticket is a fairly simple task 99% of time.

Agree, but I've also been in the 1% situation for a GUC upgraded ticket that wasn't reissued properly and it took >20' to fix (at an international outstation). Best way here is to plan for a bit more time. In my case this was at 15' before check-in closed and the check-in agent was sweating it because there was still a line building behind me with other pax who had to check in.

I've read enough on here to make me skeptical that out station agents have enough training to handle this. Thankfully I was wrong. :)
