Follow-up: Weather in las and "staff" shortages were partly (completely?) responsible.
I received an apologetic email from dl giving me miles, they will reimburse me for documented (additional) food and hotel expenses--for me my food and room were comped by the casino, but it was a nice dl gesture.
[I did stay an extra night.]

PS: The delayed 311 (which departed at 8:43 am on 8/1) had a Boston based flt crew, not the usual NY crew.

I was booked on 311 LAS-JFK red eye departing (today) 9/26 at 10:35 pm, in rapid succession I received messages from DL that my flight is (1) delayed by 1 hour, (2) departing on time, (3) delayed by 4+ hours, (3) seems to now be the real NEW dep time. As usual DL notes I can make changes online, which never seems to work [when I try I get a list of lots of reasons why that won’t work for me—but NONE of those apply to me.] Most of the 9/27 flights ane sold out in C+…assuming my flight really departs at 3:00 AM, that seems like my best option.
[The inbound 311 from JFK is delayed by 6+ hours]
