Did DL ever fly nonstop from MIA or FLL - SJU?

Just curious if anyone can remember if DL ever flew nonstop from either MIA or FLL to SJU?

Currently B6 and NK handle the SJU market at FLL and I would never travel on NK in a million years . Before the pandemic B6 had 5-6 nonstop flights FLL-SJU daily and the service on B6 was average at best.

AA has 6 nonstop flights MIA-SJU.

The Puerto Rican population in South Florida has grown considerably in the last few years and in the past DL was successful in kicking AA's butt on the JFK-SJU route which AA used to own.

Once the vaccines start rolling out and things get back to normal wouldn't one of these locations present an opportunity to DL?

I don't recall southern Florida to SJU on Delta, but I do recall SJU SDQ but that was brief.

I can say with near 100% certainty that Delta didn't fly Florida-SJU (or any Caribbean for that matter) in the last 30 years. Back in the day (or maybe shortly after the PA merger) there may have been some multi-stop services or 'direct' flights with origins/destinations elsewhere, but as far as regularly scheduled service between MIA/FLL or any of FL and SJU/Caribbean, I don't think it ever existed.

Historically Delta has never had the Caribbean presence that AA does, with many Caribbean markets being less than daily from ATL.

I would say it's very unlikely for DL to jump into this market. Their cost structure is much higher than B6 and NK who seem to have cornered the Caribbean market out of FLL. Down in MIA, I strongly doubt DL wants to start competing with AA's much more established schedule and brand in the market, but if it were to happen I would imagine this would be the best location, especially if their expanded MIA operation ever gets off the ground. I still see it as being pretty unlikely though.

MCO-SJU was flown well into the 90s, and (at least according to Departed Flights) MCO-STT was operated briefly as well.

You are correct, SJU appears on the 1995 schedule as a continuing service from ATL via MCO on an L-1011.

The STT flight is also interesting, looks like it only lasted for 1992 and then wasn't flown again. I wonder what they used to fly that one and if it also had another origin.

PMNW flew MEM-SJU and vv. It was daily when I took the flight, probably around 2000+/-2 years.

Not sure how long it lasted but they did it to compete with Airtran. That was back when we actually had real competition among the airlines.

Im honestly surprised to learn AirTran was flying it. After AA stopped flying it I cant remember any steady service until B6/NK.

MCO-NAS/FPO was also flown with NAS starting with mainline and then transitioning to DL Connection after a few years.

Yep, I can recall a few trips to NAS and FPO where it seems like the outbound was via MCO (ERJ 135/145 operated by Chatauqua or Freedom) and the return via ATL on mainline MD88 or CRJ during the ASA/XJT days.

👍🏻

For anyone wondering, the little squiggly logo indicates it was operated by Song.
