There’s FAA legal and then there’s contract legal. Contract allowable times are frequently shorter than what the FAA allows.

Having worked in dispatch next to our crew scheduling department, I can say that it’s very complicated. There are daily, weekly, monthly limits, and it also depends on how much rest they’ve had in the last x hours. For wide body long hauls, it also depends on whether it’s staffed with 2, 3 or 4 pilots. As others have mentioned there are also FAA, company, and contractual limits. All that being said, usually crew skd computers can tell you exactly when the crew will time out on any given flight.
GagaPilot and FlyDeltaMD88 like this.

This.

And, to make things even more complicated, FDP (duty, not flight time) can be extended up to 2 hours under certain conditions when it does not conflict with a cumulative limit (subject to other FAA, company, and contract limits). It's quite complicated.
