EYW is my home airport. Pricing here never makes any sense.

Delta Comfort+ (W) from

Are you sure it's U class? I'm seeing nonstop, round-trip fares between JFK and AUA for $540. $1,382.66 seems very high for a U class fare.

Oh, I had the wrong itinerary. The full trip was ROC-JFK-AUA

One-way U fares for ROC-AUA are $237.60. This still makes no sense. I'm guessing he's doing an RT search, but only looking at the outbound flights. The coach flights probably only have full Y for return on the date he is looking, but there may be some discount F inventory (possibly with a different routing). Without looking at the return flight options (upon which the RT fares are based), it's impossible to say.

Also, I see RT X fares available on this route for $430.66. Frankly, none of the above pricing is all that great of a deal that I would advise someone to jump on.

The return could be M or something like that.

Agreed. Unless JFK is a transfer rather than a connection?

This could explain why the first class fare is less (i.e. the ROC-JFK fare in U is priced as a separate unit whereas the A fare for ROC-JFK is priced as a free transfer on the Z fare for JFK-AUA). I'm just speculating here without having read the fare rules.

This close in the discount coach fares are most likely gone or unavailable due to AP. Discount FC is always cheaper then full fare Y due to fact that you have the same restrictions like a discounted Y ticket.

Your looking close in and your return is Easter weekend. Two things that will cause discount Y tickets to be all bought.

Yes, the reason is that the way back is a Y fare. Best to change the return date to a day before or after; the RT price drops to a little over $500 then.

Can we just push these to some master thread? Frankly, these posts are clutter and offer zero value.

Yep, return a day before or a day after and there is Q bucket on the return flight for a total of $584.66 RT all in. Only Y bucket for coach on 4/18 for some reason.

Alternatively, if OP's friend really needs to return 4/18, book one-way U fare on DL down for $237.60 and one-way UA Q fare for return on 4/18 for $392.56.
