There would be less waste per 7.5 oz vs 12 oz. In my local supermarket with loyalty discounts provided you buy 5 6 packs of 7.5 oz or 3 12 packs of 12 oz these came out the same price/oz.
[Pre-Colvid if I asked for a full can of 12 oz of soda they would give it to me, especially in FC.]
[Pre-Colvid if I asked for a full can of 12 oz of soda they would give it to me, especially in FC.]
But a 6 pack of 7.5oz cans is usually 3.99 at regular price and a 12 pack of 12 oz cans is 5.69 at regular price.
That aside - I don’t think Delta cares about waste, but more what they perceive to be the serving size per customer. I drink an entire 12 oz and may ask them for two 7.5 oz cans.
This may have been poorly thought out, though, because with ice on request only, the volume of the smaller cans will feel significantly smaller.
Either that, or Coke has some DC full of the 7.5 oz cans that they decided to liquidate to DL. But this is already what AF & KLM did before covid - give you a cup on top of the unopened mini can. Except with them, trying to get even 1 cube of ice is like pulling teeth and is met with shock.

Well I will say I'm interested in the old fashioned... hopefully its not just a can of sugary mix.
I have a flight on the 15th so will see how the bugs are being worked out.
Too bad it sounds like coke zero isn't available.
I guess I am kind of surprised as to the decision to have premix cans of booze, since what is the difference if you hand somebody mini bottle and they open it vs handing them a can and they open it.

Y'all probably know how I feel at this point, but as someone who usually flies/buys first, some (probably) gross pre-mixed cocktail is too little too late.
AA has full bar with proper bottles of wine again (a really nice FA gave me a full unopened bottle of a decent French wine on my way off the plane last month. Short haul domestic mainline), Woodford, etc.
No reason Delta can't resume full normal first class service while using these new service standards for economy. We'll see if there's a follow on memo for the premium cabin.

I am also curious if DL thinks the slightly improved service will be sufficient for them to stop seat blocking/capacity limitations.

I agree here. I have no interest in a sugar bomb cocktail, but I don't see enough info to say definitively that liquor minis aren't coming back also (as it would make no sense to me if they don't). Willing to give a bit of time for this message to become clearer.

I'm generally a DL fan but I am reserving judgement on this round of changes. If the only liquor DL is planning to offer is premixed cocktails in a can this is a major disappointment. AA and UA are flowing DL out of the water on service in F right now and there is NO evidence that anything they have done has resulted in rampant spread of COVID. I fully support doing everything we can to mitigate the spread of COVID, but DL's action seem to contract the narrative that air travel is safe. If it is so unsafe that they can;t hand me a liquor mini then it's too unsafe for people to be traveling.
Hopefully, they will still offer liquor minis and cans of soda so we can mix ourselves.
Paid F seats that are twice as expensive as on AA and UA with half the service is not a good look for DL.

There is very limited selection on tik tok tip top proper cocktail's website and the only one that comes even remotely close to my favorite double G&Ts is old fashioned.
Next trip is on AS around mid april, lets see if they get any inspiration out of this news. Wish me luck!

I hope they return the mini's to First and C+ at least and don't have only the canned cocktails. The times I've had the premixed cocktails they've been too sugary. I have no issues if I'm given the mixer and a couple mini's and told to mix the drink myself like NK used to do, and in fact would prefer to mix the drink myself. Sucks that Fresca isn't coming back since I like Fresca and Vodka and COke zero is my preferred soda.
Also think it's being cheap having the smaller cans of soda, but I'll just for two cans.

Don't hold your breath on return of mini's. Not anytime soon.
For those asking whats the difference between handing out minis with mixers vs. pre-mixed cans - It is COST.
In a mini you can see what brand it is and know what quality liquor you are getting. In a pre-mixed can you don't know whatever 2nd or 3rd grade alcohol went in there.
Its same principle as in fruit growing where top class portion is sold as fresh produce and bruised/damaged portion is sold as frozen.
I have seen process where vile smelling ethyl alcohol is made by fermentation of molasses and after a dose of chemicals to enhance the color and flavor.. voila.. even experienced tasters will rate it as low aged scotch. Not joking!

Doesn't look like juice is coming back either
I can see people sneaking filled up minis or booze from home and mixing their own drinks on board with the mixers.

I can offer my anecdotal experience...in the last 12 months I have purchased ZERO paid F tickets on DL. Between AA and UA I have purchased about 20 paid one-ways in F. Those purchasing decisions were based on a combination of schedule convenience (DL has cut back too much), price and service in F. My experience may not be the normal, but I can verify DL has lost thousands in revenue from me that sent to other carriers in the past year and DL is my preferred airline.

Single-Serve Sizes In the Main Cabin, mini soda cans, juice/mixers and ready-to-drink cocktails allow beverages to be served without pouring.
Does Delta really call their customers "fans"? Their arrogance is hilarious.
