What about tix purchased with miles?

I'm thinking about booking a flight to Las Vegas from NYC for travel in mid-April. What are my options for cancelling, under the new rules, if the casinos close?
Would I get my miles redeposited without a fee? My taxes refunded?

Also, am I crazy for even contemplating the trip? I just feel that I'm going need to get away from NYC after a month of isolating and working from home.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful advise.

Jim

Bumping this as I’m also curious. Will DL waive redeposit fees If dates fall within affected waived dates?

Yes, same rules apply to award tickets (including BE awards). It's in the FAQ's. Some crazy values out there. There are roundtrip DTW-SAN/LAX awards for 8K roundtrip. Award level good through May 20th with 21-day advance purchase. It's rare to see good award deals out of the hubs.

8. What if I paid in miles?

The same rules apply whether a flight is booked with cash or miles. For award flights that qualify for a change fee waiver (including travel dates in March or April 2020, or tickets purchased in March 2020), we are also waiving the mile redeposit fee.

Thanks! Can confirm this worked perfectly online for a friend of mine who has no status and would've had to pay $150 redeposit fee otherwise. He was able to cancel without issue for travel in March/April.

Technically I already get waived award fees, but I can confirm the process worked the exact same for my award trip that I moved from next week to August. I had to pay the fare difference (in miles) and was refunded the small tax difference. The Phone agent had to get a bit creative by canceling/redepositing first, though.

My only regret is that she couldn't get me on my top 2 flight choices for our new dates (mileage availability or significantly higher taxes). I feel like it would have been nice to allow us a straight swap, seeing as my flights to Europe and on to India are not allowed at all right now.

What if I have an award flight departing in April but returning in May? (April 29 - May 2)

Since the trip starts in April you should be fine, assuming it is a RT mileage itinerary and not separate OW tickets.

Thank you, is there somewhere that would have this written in stone? It makes sense to me but I don't trust the system to work properly. Yes one RT C+ award ticket w/ mileage upgrade to F.

I see "Any ticket booked for travel in March or April 2020" and "That means all travel departing in March or April 2020[...]",but nothing addressing a return leg or ticket for early May. I'll keep my eyes on it though.

If it's a RT that starts in April, then you're fine. If you booked separate OW flights, then it may be harder to change the return leg (though they'd probably be sympathetic, but I wouldn't hold them to it).

Taking the FCM offer will almost certainly make things more difficult (since it doesn't involve a ticket re-issue and FCM offers don't permit changes). This is going to require a call no matter how you slice it -- https://www.delta.com/us/en/advisories/other-alerts/coronavirus-travel-updates

When to Call

If your form of payment used included SkyMiles Companion Certificates, combination of cash and miles, upgrade using miles or certificates.

Good to know, thanks. I know in the past cancelling on a similar ticket within 24 hours of purchase was all automatic, but I can understand this is different. Sounds like I shouldn't call for quite some time yet, though.
