Out of curiosity, does DL also use Dasani water for the large water bottles they use to fill the drink cups in main cabin? (I don't remember!)

Flights departing from Japan have Evian. And sometimes even US departing flights have Chaudfontaine (probably left over stock from earlier EU departure). If you get a nice FA, they'll generously give you bottle after bottle of these much better tasting water.
Speaking of Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi products (perhaps a bit OT here), anyone happen to know what airlines nowadays serve Pepsi?

Hydrogen and oxygen from a spring are no different then H & O from a water treatment plant or a purifier. Get over yourselves

Most airports nowadays have large automatic bottle fillers above drinking fountains - it's easy enough to bring a bottle next time and fill it with purified water after security so that you don't have to offend your sensibilities by drinking Dasani

All these differences (perceived or real) are due to mineral content. I like the taste of San Francisco's tap water, but don't care for San Jose's unless you run it through a softener and then a purifier prior to consumption. I can see why people prefer one brand of bottled water over the other. But in the end, it's just water. If I'm actually thirsty, I can drink any brand of bottled water (well, except for carbonated).

I always buy a bottle of water of my preferred brand (Fiji, if I can find it) after clearing security. Any water I receive on the flight is a bonus as I like to stay well hydrated.
I can taste the differences between certain brands of bottled water. I think for me it has to do with whatever minerals are added back, but I can't swear that's the case. I just know that some bottles of water taste better to me than others.

Coke adds magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride, and salt to Dasani to give it a proprietary taste; this has been really successful and it is the top-selling bottled water brand in the US (so it isn't hugely surprising that most airlines choose to provide it onboard as part of their Coke contract). I tend to agree it isn't my favorite formulation, but it isn't so far off the taste of tap water that I find it to be a dealbreaker.
There are two other brands of water the Coca-Cola Company sells - Aquarius, which is a more neutral tasting water at a lower price point, and Glaceau Smartwater, a premium competitor to Fiji/Voss/etc.
Delta does stock Glaceau Smartwater on Delta One flights, so if you don't enjoy the taste of Dasani you do have options on international flights.
(Or, you could do the sustainable thing and bring a water bottle from home that you fill up post-security. Many SkyClubs now have a filtered water tap that works great for this, and airports are starting to provide fill stations as well.

Sorry I don't think you'll get a lot of sympathy from people on here. There are lots of ways you can avoid drinking the water that Delta provides.

Personally, I will only drink water bottled in glass at home. In the air I'm at the mercy of what's being poured, and I agree with the OP that Dasani is about the worst thing out there. Even the little Marriott 'Vasa Pure' bottles or whatever they're called have a better taste.
