Well that was bizarre...skymiles snaffu

Set the scene.:

Roundtrip DL flight from ATL to LHR.

Platinum.

Closely watching MQMs to see status for next year.

Flight from ATL to LHR listed as DL #### but was on Virgin equipment. Flight from LHR to ATL was DL equip and miles showed up on Skymiles account as follows but ONLY for return LHR to ATL trip. ATL to LHR is missing.

MQMs -6317 MQD -$4240 Base Miles - 21,200 Bonus Miles - 16,960 for Total Miles 38,160.

Who KNOWS how they come up with those numbers, right?? But we're watching and watching and the ATL to LHR flight isn't showing up in activity. It's been 15 days. We call tonight and DL tells us it's all wrong, will all be scrapped and watch for new numbers.

What the heck? Can someone who is platinum share what an ATL to LONDON roundtrip flight should rack up in MQMs? Not sure if any of it is tied to price but that price is wrong too.

What??

What fare class did you purchase? When you bought the ticket, what were the flight numbers? The airline who ticketed it, and the equipment flown do not determine your mileage earning - the marketing carrier does. For example, if you booked on delta.com and your receipt shows VSXXXX then you will earn mileage based on the Virgin Partner Earning chart.

Distance calculation between ATL-LHR at 100% MQM earning would be around 4210 (using milecalc), so the MQM sounds right for a one way. (Edited, 6217 was with a 50% class bonus - so wouid need further information). Thank you to xliioper for flagging.

There is no MQM bonus for status. The fact that you are Platinum makes no difference for MQM earn. What was your fare class? Without knowing that, there's not much to say. 6317 MQM's represent a 50% class of service bonus (ATL-LHR is 4210 miles), so presumably you were flying on a Delta One/Business class fare (these all have a 50% MQM bonus except for full J fares which have a 100% bonus). Suggest you relax and see how things post. What was your base fare? This won't have anything to do with MQM, but will determine how many MQD and miles your earn (since all flights were DL marketed). Perhaps that's what they were referring to was incorrect. If there were flight changes or irregular operations, this could have impacted the marketing carrier of one or both flights which could have caused the incorrect amounts to post. When there are flight changes, sometimes the marketing carrier will change for new flight, but the original booking class is retained and there is not a one-to-one correspondence between DL fare classes and VS fare classes.

Premium economy was the fare status. Booked through DL ATL to LHR DL 4365 and LHR to ATL DL31

I just checked again and now everything has changed again. The miles are wrong, the dollar amount is wrong. This is really bizarre.

Oh, well...we'll just have to wait and see. As it is, looks like about 2750 MQM from platinum. Dangit!

DL PS fares should earn 150% MQMs, just like Z I D C D1 fares and also Y and B class coach fares. I'm not sure about the C+ (purchased) fares.

If the VS earnings chart applies, IIRC premium economy might be 125% but you need to check that if it applies to your ticket.

Okay, Premium Select fares also earn 50% MQM bonus. These are P/A/G fare classes on DL. Didn't realize DL had Premium Select on this route yet, but I see the 764 aircraft now have a PS cabin. You say you booked at DL4365 and DL31, but do both flights show up as Delta flight numbers on your earnings page? Were these originally purchased in Premium Select, or were they upgrades? $4240 sounds like way too much for a Premium Select fare in one direction. The most expensive Premium Select fares look to be around $3K each way (PFFUS fares).

Three things we need.
  1. The flight number as booked(not what the operating number was, but what you booked the flight as)
  2. the fare class (P,A,,G if a PE cabin booked using DL flight numbers).
  3. Only if you booked DL flight numbers we need the cost of the ticket.

FWIW, MQD is awarded based on the percentage of total ticketed miles each flight represents. It's not award by the actual fare for that segment.
