Evacuation slide falls off Delta flight from CDG and lands in mans front yard

I didn't know this was possible if the door on the plane didn't open?

Apparently, this is a known issue on the 767's --

It looks like it was N1607B, one of the newer 763s. It is scheduled to be ferried to ATL tomorrow.

Doesn't sound like the same issue, as I think the other problems involved doors/exits opening. But 767s did have this problem that was supposed to be repaired by 2019...

The over-wing emergency exit slides are not built into the door. If you can find a good picture from the outside of the plane you'll see a panel under more aft of the two wing exits which contains the slide.

Why do they only land in the front yard though?

I think your repair by date is off. If I am looking at the right AD the repair by date would be April 13th, 2020 (October 13, 2016 plus 42 months).

This looks like the relevant AD:
Airworthiness Directives; The Boeing Company Airplanes

Dates:
This AD is effective October 13, 2016.

(f) Compliance
Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

(g) Replacement of the Trigger Mechanism Sector and Sear
Within 42 months after the effective date of this AD, modify the escape slide regulator valves of the forward-entry door, forward-service door, aft-entry door, and aft-service door, and as applicable, modify the escape slide regulator valves of the mid-entry door and mid-service door, in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Special Attention Service Bulletin 767-25-0548, Revision 1, dated April 23, 2015.

I think the slide if much preferable to a stowaway's corpse, or the 747 engine that landed a mile from my house...

Of all the illogical fears people have of things that could happen to them that are statistically nearly impossible, I've never understood why getting hit with junk falling off airplanes is so ignored.

what is the weight of that slide? Several hundred pounds? This could have killed someone.

Yeah, and it doesn't need to weigh nearly that much to kill somebody. I'm disappointed that a known issue that could cause serious damage and injuries on the ground with a known fix was given *4 years* to implement. This is a lot like the 737 engine blade inspections after a plane was damaged, and Southwest and other airlines fought saying they would take too much downtime, until that poor woman was killed and all of a sudden they were able to complete all of the inspections in a few days with minimal flight impact.
