Proper Emoji usage etiquette in DL Chats

My preferred method of contacting Delta is through FB Messenger (not sure if you can put emojis on the website chat, but you can on Twitter).

What is a good words to emoji ratio? I usually put a couple happy faces and maybe an upside down happy face, and that other face where the head looks like it will explode. Is this too much? too little? What about "lol" and "lawl" - I use those sparingly. I have never been one to use "LMAO" even in private chats.

You use emoji in chat with a business? 🤦 This isnt a chat with friends. You may ❤ it. However I'm willing to bet that the agents just 🙄 and go oh boy we got ourselves a 🤡 here. I know this might not make your day, but most agents wont give a 🤐

Edit - got permission to add emoji back, just couldn't use 💩 as replacement for a vulgar word. (It's not used as a replacement here so feel it's ok in this context)

you sir are a very skilled emoji-ist. 😂😂😂 I applaud you. and this whole time I thought we didnít have access to the full range of emojis on this site. 🤦.♂️ Pretty sure my participation will increase considerably. 😊

and yes, of course I use emojis in all my professional correspondence. With my assistant we have a word to emoji ratio of 3 words to one emoji. With clients is more along the lines of 150 words per emoji.

You should stick to that. Oh no, I just breached 150 word rule.

Unless you are a teenager, you shouldn't use any emojis in professional/business communications.

go for it, emojis bring text to life and add some emotion to a bland exchange that sometimes let one better understand the context and tone. Don't go overboard but I find adding an emoji sometimes removes the ambiguity of whether my message is positive or negative in tone

He's been on FT for seven and a half years, so he's probably at least an older teen.

My first reaction was if you're not comfortable with your emoji use, maybe you should just pick up the phone instead

I think itís slightly different when you are the customer and the business is working for you.

I donít want it to interfere with my message but sometimes I throw one in with Delta to break the ice or otherwise let them know that I appreciate them.

I have never found that it detracted from the chat or support experience.

me... I prefer to use words... never really found the emoji's are worth going through the hundreds that are on my phone to say what I need to say..
hey that is just me.. and besides, the only time I will ever use text for my customers is only to give them a quick update on a job... otherwise its a phone call. (they do appreciate that)
