CRJ900 Montréal to ATL...is Delta

Doing this on purpose to piss off customers? Honestly trying to wrap my mind around this. Absolute joke for any airline to run this plane on routes close to 3 hours.

Looking forward to my connecting flight from ATL to GSP on an MD90 so I can stretch my legs!!!!!!

ATL-YUL is less than 1000 statute miles. It's hardly a long regional jet route in today's age. Perhaps you can complain about it in an absolute context, but on a relative basis, United has about 10 routes over 1500 statute miles.

Admittedly it's an E-175 (Which is nicer than most mainline jets, although United's seating is pretty unpadded), but Untied flies SFO-MSN which is 1772 statute miles - over 75% farther than ATL-YUL.

Yes...specifically you. I guess they achieved their goal.

But seriously, I find those planes to be quite comfortable and I don't know of a plane that would have more legroom. Their pitch is pretty standard across the board.

Another reason (many) to not fly United.

Flying LGA-RSW on a CRJ this weekend, 1075 miles. Last time I did I actually found it comfortable, especially the exit rows have a lot of legroom.

Flew this in May... I’d take it over a back row of a 737 any day. 2+2 in E+ isn’t particularly bad.

FlyDeltaConnection Nov 7, 2019 5:21 pm

More comfortable in back than on mainline as it's 2X2. Also up front is not bad, lots of room and some of them have power outlets like the Endeavor operated CR9 I was on back on Sunday.

Is it a CRJ meaning CRJ-200, 50 seater with only coach, or could it be a CRJ-700 (9 FC seats in three rows of 1-2 with no forward lavatory) or CRJ-900 (12 FC seats in four rows of 1-2 with a separate FC lavatory)?

You should be so lucky. It's a great ride.
(And the hometown plane for YUL)

CRJ-900, fingers crossed for FC upgrade.

Unless you are talking about a CR2, I have no problem with the CR7/CR9/E170/E175 (though prefer the CR9/E175 for upgrade opportunities).

Flew it this year on RDU - AUS (about 200 miles longer than YUL - ATL) and was perfectly fine and fly them all the time on the admittedly shorter RDU - JFK/LGA/EWR routes. Row 5 is great for C+ and FC upgrades are often plentiful, especially on RDU - NYC.

I'd have a hard time believing that any seat on the MD90 has more legroom than row 5 on the CR9

ElmhurstNick Nov 7, 2019 6:27 pm

I have taken a lot of 1000+ mile CR9s. Most frequently RDU-AUS and winter schedule ORD-SLC. On the former, F is often just $99 more than Y. Easy choice unless you are Diamond.

In the 500-800 mile range, ORD sees a lot of CR9/E75/E70. ORD-LGA is mostly E75, ORD-JFK has been all CR9 for as long as I can remember.

In F the CR9 are fine in an A or C seat, a little difficult from a D window. But generally easy upgrades.

That is still shorter distance than SLC-YVR on the same aircraft.

Often1 Nov 7, 2019 6:33 pm

I am fascinated by the rants about the larger regional jets. They are typically more comfortable, have 2-2 rather than 3-3 seating in steerage, a smooth ride with the latest avionics (always nice in lousy weather), and full-size OH's. Pitch is pretty standard so not a big issue.

CRJ-200's are another story, but that is not what DL is using to perform this route. With an operating range of 2,250 miles, this route is just under 1/2 of the aircraft's rated performance, although the route is on the longer side.

The bottom line here is that DL and any other sane carrier has to right-size the aircraft. If there were the demand for a D1-configured widebody on an hourly basis, DL would likely find a way to do it. But, there is not. Thus, it comes down to what the right sized aircraft ought to operate. Larger aircraft means fewer frequencies and that is something which customers don't like.

It would be good to know the specific criticism of this aircraft on this route and just how it is worse than a standard narrow-body mainline aircraft.

OP, have you ever been on a CRJ-900?
