Buy your 2020 Status Email Arrived Today

I switched all of my flying to OneWorld but this is still a funny offer to me:

I was just about to post this. I got the email about ten minutes ago and it says that it's based on MQMs/MQSs/MQDs as of October 31st. Someone didn't notice that I'll have satisfied both the MQM and MQD requirements to renew DM within the next couple weeks, using tickets that I purchased a while ago, and then I have further travel ticketed for next month that would also by itself requalify me for DM.

Anyway, my personalized price is 2500 MQMs, 5 MQSs, and $2,799 MQDs in a bundle at the cost of $2799.

No thanks.

BTW, the purchase deadline seems to be midnight February 29, 2020 (in my time zone but YMMV on that).

ADDED: My email mentioned the Reclaim My Status option (with a logo) at the bottom, just before the T&Cs.

Mine was even more amusing, since it was clearly generated some time before it was sent.

The timeline:
Sunday, 0247 PST: email that I'd reached the SkyMiles Platinum Amex MilesBoost threshold and received 10K MQM & 10K RDM. That was enough to finish qualifying for DM (already had the MQD).
Monday, 0305 PST: "Diamond Medallion Status Is Yours" email.
Monday, 1508 PST: "With This Opportunity, 2020 Diamond Medallion Status Is In The Bag". This email shows me as a PM and offers an amazing deal: for only $2,999 I can get 5,000 MQM, 9 MQS, and 2,999 MQD! (I'm not actually eligible now that I'm a DM.)

Here's my complete offer, as a DM every year, currently PM for next year (but that will be "fixed" with my next trip, already ticketed, and I anticipate ending the year with about 35,000 rollover):

1,000 MQMs + 3 MQSs + $2399 MQDs for $2399

2,500 MQMs + 5 MQSs + $2799 MQDs for $2799

5,000 MQMs + 9 MQSs + $2999 MQDs for $2999

7,500 MQMs + 12 MQSs + $3199 MQDs for $3199

10,000 MQMs + 15 MQSs + $3299 MQDs for $3299

12,500 MQMs + 18 MQSs + $3399 MQDs for $3399.

The nonlinear price increments are interesting and a bit surprising. In fact, *IF* someone is taking the offer, it could make sense to buy as many MQMs as possible for rollover since 2500 MQMs for $100 is a very decent four cpm price for a hub captive.

As usual, one can fly for much less than the price to buy in for some additional MQMs at the end of the year.

These buy-ups are absurd. Then again people must be buying them otherwise Delta would lower the price.

They're absurd unless you really need the offer: $2400 for four GUCs (plus two other choice benefits, free CLEAR, and higher upgrade inventory) isn't unreasonable if this is your only way to requalify for DM, although of course one can earn the MQMs much more cheaply and have lots more fun earning the MQDs needed.

I got one for $4999 to requal for diamond (email says 36 MQS and 25K MQM but I need about half that). Thatís hilarious. When I open it thatís not even one of the options on their drop down list. FAIL.

Currently Iím sitting in row 27 on an M fare waiting for a gate at DTW. DM sure is awesome...

Could there be a glitch if 12,500 MQMs or 18 MQSs would be enough for you? Have you satisfied the MQD requirements for DM? What does your email say, before you click and log in to see the whole dropdown list of options?

The $4999 price is much higher than I remember from previous years, where IIRC the maximum reported cost was about $3700, although in the past DL never offered to sell more than 10,000 MQMs AFAIK.

As a PM (former DM) my offer was $1399 for 5K MQMs and 9MQSs (and $1399 MQD). As of a 10 days ago I am about 3K MQMs short of PM (which I will get in early December) -- so it was a recent calculation in my case.

The Reclaiming My Status is intriguing: 90 days to earn 31250 MQMs with $3750 MQDs. If requested after 1/1/20 the status is good thru 1/31/22 -- I must be missing something or not reading it properly -- that seems like a good deal for two years of DM -- unless you don't get the Choice Benefits.

Were you offered 25,000 MQMs at $4999 or $4099?

My offer topped out at 12,500 MQMs (DM) clicking through the email links on my ipad, but I'm going to try on a desktop to see whether a price for 25,000 MQMs will appear (not that I would purchase, but just curious).

A new Delta AMEX Reserve business or personal card for 10,000 MQMs seems like a bargain for $450.

AFAIK reclaiming status requires some story and justification about a life event, such as giving birth to a child, that prevented you from flying during the relevant period. You also can't do it too often. I suspect that it requires or can require documentation.
