An Offer You can Refuse (Fast Track to Status)

Three months free Silver for existing GM - very generous!

Seriously, is there anything useful here or just a badly-targeted promo based on my June status?

[EDIT] There is actually some useful stuff on the landing page. Guess the lesson is to read the whole thing, not just the top line. I'd been expecting to do the Elevate Your Status buy for next level but this might just make it work organically.

Ah, that's actually useful, but the email was not informative.

This is not the end of the story though. One of my eligible scheduled flights is 1/23/20-1/27/20. If I registered today, I think that would be excluded from my three months. So I need to wait until end of October to safely register (after 10/27/19). I'll be annoyed if they don't include flights already purchased but falling inside my 3 months. That seems a wrinkle too far? The small print does say my existing MQD Waiver from the Delta Reserve is good here, so PM here I come?

Including January potentially makes it useful for someone who won't make status by NYE but does a lot of travel in January. It's similar to a one month extension for someone who won't earn FO status this year and otherwise wouldn't therefore have any "rollover" either.

I suspect the email may have been sent to everyone in the NYC area, although we'll find out here soon enough.

It says through Jan 31, 2020. Nov/Dec/Jan are three months. It doesnt say the three months start today. Instead my guess is that anything before Nov 1 doesnt count.

I’m based in NYC and the only emails I’ve received from Delta today are about 5x SkyMiles from Ticketmaster and some new SkyMiles Dining options in my neighborhood.

MSPeconomist Oct 21, 2019 5:57 pm

I'm not in NYC and I got the ticketmaster and time to select your entree emails.

You'll have to book the flights AFTER enrolling in the promo anyway. So the flights you have already booked won't count. I did this recently for fast track to Gold Medallion. You should read the fine print in more detail.

SteveTownsend Oct 22, 2019 5:48 am

The devil really is in the details here. The Ts and Cs in the email say, with my bold:

Terms & Conditions

This offer is a private invitation and is not transferable. Complimentary status will expire 3 months from date status is awarded. Offer valid for travel completed within 3 months from time of account upgrade and will not include flights taken prior to enrollment. Participation does not guarantee Medallion Status. Complimentary Status will expire after 3 months, unless that level or a higher level of Medallion Status is awarded prior to that date by completing the challenge requirements.

I think if I'd upgraded yesterday, my period would expire Jan 21 2020 and miss my late January flight.

I disagree with this based on my reading of the fine print, but thanks for the advice.

Yes OP you are correct here. I think the other poster was referencing most Delta status challenges, which require enrollment prior to purchase. It seems this one does not.

Ah nice! Sorry OP. Haven't seen a fast track offer like this before.

Interesting that they’re offering this in NYC when it seems like they’re killing it there.

GrayAnderson Oct 23, 2019 12:51 am

My best guess is that this is an assault of some kind on B6 (the "other" big LGA/JFK presence, and also a major presence at BOS as well). An attack on them would seem to follow what we saw in SEA a few years ago.
