Delta & Nexus

Flying from MSP - YVR and DL GA insisted she would not let me on the plane because my Nexus card did not have an "airplane symbol". This is an example of poor knowledge and poor training - no such symbol exists and is not required. I have flown non-DL before and just my Nexus card was just fine (I also have the iris scan). I do also carry my passport with me as a backup, but it should not be necessary.

My NEXUS card does actually have an airplane in the hologram. What does the airplane signify?

US airlines typically do not honor Nexus (only) for US->Canada travel. US airlines typically require a US Passport. Air Canada typically will allow travel using Nexus. I suggest continuing this discussion in the following thread:

I forgot my passport but DL let me on both transborder US>Canada>US flights with my NEXUS card with no argument.

My NEXUS has a hologram with an Airplane, Boat and Car in the hologram.

US airlines take NEXUS. If they didnt then they'd be on hook for breach of contract as it's a valid travel document. Now unlike AC where one can select Nexus card instead of passport via OLCI, US airlines only provide a passport option for non-agent checkin. I normally just let system use my verified passport to do OLCI. I then present Nexus card to agent. Most nowadays know Nexus is valid. For the few that dont a call to their support line, or a red coat clears it up. Biggest issue nowadays seems to be agents getting confused thinking card is GE. They're exactly same format/pictures/colors/layout, just one says Nexus and one says Global Entey.

You are correct. I started tilting my card around in the light and I do see the hologram of the airplane, car & boat. Thanks

NEXUS includes GE. GE does not include NEXUS.

Never stated it did.

I would file a complaint on delta.com, not for the points, but so their manager is aware of it. If you don't speak up about it, the GA is just going to continue making the same mistake.

Has NEXUS always been valid for air travel? For some reason I thought it is was only for land.

Nexus has always been an air program. However what changed one or two years back was that you could travel by air with only a Nexus card. Before that a passport was still required even though you never presented it.

Thanks, that change I was not aware of

You are supposed to have an iris scan to be able to use Nexus to fly. You can get it an any Canadian Nexus office (we got ours at YYZ, where we stopped when driving to Toronto from Detroit - no appointment necessary). When you enter Canada by air the Nexus kiosk scans your card, asks you questions, and then you have to look into a little mirror attached to the kiosk for it to verify your iris scan matches.

Kids with a Nexus don’t need an iris scan. They can go to a Nexus or GE agent.
