Anyway, they got onto today's 0620 flight and are on their way.

I can understand how frustrating this would be. I can also understand why airlines take an especially risk averse approach to UM, and even more so with connecting flights.

Glad they made it out today. Your clarification helps explain the DL position. This was then not some broad-based emnargo or waiver, but likely occurred after a review of UM itineraries. In your case, if the BOS-SLC was delayed and there was a misconnect, DL did not want to have the responsibility for the kids at SLC if avoidable. Here it was.

While it is frustrating that it happened, it is just a series of circumstances.

Someone help me out. I'm confused. The weather was supposed to be bad in BOS. UMNR's were allowed to fly direct flights only with no connections? How does not being allowed to leave the affected area, BOS...connect in SLC to another non-affected city make sense? In other words, why no non-affected connection. I could see if the connecting city was BOS. What am I missing?

Ok, I get it now... Myself (and I think a lot of others) were under the impression that the only flight was BOS-SLC and thats it.

Even though they were connecting in SLC, there was still no WX waiver or issues in BOS yesterday morning.
Glad they got out today... weather is miserable here and was heavy rain earlier.

Picking up our kids at LAX today and DL claims systems down and we can’t go through security and greet the kids. The staff at LAX are incompetent and can’t believe I put them in charge of our children. Someone will bring them to us at some point. Ok.

Nice, huh?
Not my experience with Southwest -- The couple times I've had a flight cancelled - they just rebooked me on a later one within a couple hours - it was PHX-LAS and MCO-FLL. Not sure if that makes a difference, but was very easy.

Which systems? The system to generate a gate pass to pass through the TSA checkpoint? If you can’t get through the checkpoint, a vendor will escort your kids to you at the exit.

Buy a refundable ticket, go through security and meet your kids. Then cancel the ticket.
