My experience varies. The sky priority tag doesn't seem to translate to seeing only sky priority bags appear first on the luggage conveyer belt.

Another +1 for station dependent. In MSN it averages around 10 minutes from arrival to first bag, the yellow tagged bags are always first, and they even announce that “as always, priority bags are first.” My record is 6 minutes. Mad props to the Mad City baggage handlers! |
Another airport dependent. At PSC they always come out first and on most of my out of town trips they usually do. Tonight at BTV my priority tagged bag with a MM tag too was one of the last to come out. Plus they put UA bags on one belt before starting the DL bags on another long after they were scanned but I did get the 2500 miles though.

100% an RDU thing in this case
RDU really is a strange focus city (and I say all of this having lived here most of my life and now back again as an ex-RDU based FO, GM and now PM). IME the "front of the house" (e.g., the desk agents pre-security) is horrible -- bag checking takes forever even if SKY, for some reason we are back to RDU being a 45 minute cut-off city for baggage checks (which makes absolutely no sense -- airport isn't that big), and bags can take forever to come out (and they don't seem to care at all about status -- though recently they seem to have mostly improved just enough to get my bag out at ~T-17 so no miles claim opportunity). On the flip side the folks in the SC are amazing and the vast majority of the GAs are great -- plus the actual flights, including RDU - CDG and CDG - RDU, are great. |
In BOS, it means absolutely nothing. Never seen SP bags come out earlier than others, mine are always randomly mixed in.

I do think the 2.500 mile 'bags on time' has probably helped. It should give stations incentive not to screw up. That said, I find the priority handling to be fairly spotty. It is usually quite good at MSP, but bags are mostly pretty quick here anyway (though I get frustrated with how many concurrent flights sometimes get assigned to a single carousel, esp late at night when they *could* spread out but probably are skimping on labor).
At the other ends of many of my ex-MSP flights I'm unimpressed. Is that based on how the bags got loaded, in which case it's actually an MSP-ish issue? Or how the outstations unload and sort? I dunno, but the contrast is noticeable vs MSP inbound. |

What exactly does the Sky Priority tag mean in DL bag system? Was on CDG-RDU flight yesterday. Breezed through Immigration and waited for the checked bag to arrive. Carousal started moving, bags started coming out, but there didn't appear to be any difference between those with the yellow "Sky Priority" tag and those without. Waited for more than 30 minutes before my single checked bag with the yellow Sky Priority tag to eventually come out, almost the last one out of the 767, apparently without any "Priority" treatment. Anyone can shed some light on this?

What does Sky Priority mean for checked bags?
Unfortunately, in most cases not a damn thing. |
