Skymiles newb question

I'm new to airline status, quick question, for Delta provided I meet the requirements MQM/MQD for silver medallion this year.

To meet GM status next year, I would have to do $3,000 or $6,000 in MQD? And 25,000 or 50,000 MQM?

Thank you in advance

To reach Gold you will need to earn 50k MQM and $6000 MQD between 1/1/19 and 12/31/19.

If I understand your question, The 25k that you earned in 2018 got you 2019 Silver but don’t count towards what you need to earn to get Gold the rest of this year for next year.

I assume that OP is talking about earning Silver for 2020 program year (meaning qualifying this year). MQD gets reset back to zero on Jan 1, 2020 and you need to start all over again (so you will need the full $6000 in MQD to qualify for Gold next year -- or spend $25K next year on a DL Amex to get the MQD Waiver). Delta has MQM Rollover which means you can rollover MQM earned in excess of your status level requirements into next year. So, if you end the year with 26,000 MQM's, you would start 2020 with 1000 MQM's (the amount above the Silver requirement level) which would be rolled over from 2019 . You would then still need to earn 49,000 MQM's to make it to Gold status. If they simply let you accumulate MQM/MQD without resetting year after year as you are suggesting, the program would end up very top heavy with high-level Medallions. This is why they reset to zero each year (modulo MQM rollover) and require you meet the full requirements for each status level.
