Post-Purchase Upgrades on AF Question
Looking at flights to CDG and BLR this summer on the DL website. Both ATL-CDG and CDG-BLR legs have PE, but there is no option to purchase (says not available on the website). My questions are, would I simply just need to call DL to gauge PE costs, should I expect 'upgrade' offers for miles/dollars on the site after purchase, or is it simply a fare difference purchase? Is it better to book through AF, and if so, would they require a fare difference or offer 'upgrade fares with dollars/miles' like DL does? Assuming right now the only way is to call DL or book PE through AF (which isn't an outright option right now with the travel agency/policy that would be booking it).

If you didn't book PE from the beginning, you will need to pay the difference between your fare class and the lowest PE fare class available for your itinerary. You can upgrade using DL miles (although at a not-so-good rate) or Flying Blue miles provided that "A" class is available on both flights.

Is it also like buying up for F on DL, where I could buy one leg in PE but not in the other?

Is it worth buying on the AF site?

Delta's press release on post-purchase upgrades includes this line:
only itineraries wholly operated by Delta are eligible for post-purchase upgrades, subject to availability. https://news.delta.com/customers-now...anage-upgrades Maybe there's an AF day-of-departure opportunity. You might be able to upgrade DL-operated segments with miles: https://news.delta.com/buying-upgrad...-fly-delta-app |
On the AF MSP-CDG flight there frequently are offers of paid upgrades at the gate from PE to Business. I haven’t noticed but would assume they would also offer Economy to PE. Prices vary according to original fare class. I once got PE to B for $318.

Its' the wife's birthday and was thinking about sticking her upfront while I hang back with the kiddos. I can't seem to upgrade just 1 individual on the app or website, it keeps prompting me to upgrade all 3. May call to inquire. |
