$3200 for coach in May? JFK-FCO
Hello-
Any idea why fares to Europe in coach are so expensive on Delta?
Ex. JFK to FCO, May 20 to May 24th, $3290.
Seems so odd to me unless perhaps I'm missing something.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

That doesn't include a Saturday night stay.
May 20-26th can be had for $1,077. Try using a booking tool that supports flexible date searches. Among others, delta.com and Orbitz are fine for this over a fairly narrow date range.

From NYC there are many EU destinations under $1000 RT if you meet the various stay requirements. If DTW is your origin, fares are higher on DL/Skyteam due to lack of competition. The cheapest V fares typically have a 7-day min stay requirement. T and X fares are somewhat more and will require a Saturday night stay. The stay requirement is measured from point of arrival which means you actually have to depart on a Friday or earlier in the week and and stay through at least Sunday to qualify for them. The exception would be for the 8:15AM VS JFK-LHR daytime flight (VS26) where you can depart on Saturday and still arrive on Saturday allowing you to meet the fare requirements without leaving on a Friday.

Edited to add: those prices I'm quoting are STL/Midwest-AMS.

Prices have risen a LOT the past 2-3 years. That 1300 used to be main cabin (and you could buy C+ for $100 each way) - now that 1300 gets you BE. You want Main, it's more like 1,500 and C+ is running over $2k (!) for the dates I'm looking (21-day stay starting late June). With the full rollout of PS in the coming years, I don't see this trend reversing barring a recession hitting the US.

Kidding aside, while I get the concept of why they might want to get into AZ, if it happens I predict it will be a disaster in the broadest sense of the word. I hope DL's own due diligence will eventually tell them to run the other way. They are printing money right now TATL and LH taking over AZ really should not move the needle much to change that. Plus there is always the magical we-only-coordinate-pricing-indirectly-so-it's-not-illegal-machine to make things right and have everyone get fat an happy on expensive TATL fares.
