FO Turns Down Upgrade to 1st Class. Huh?

Iíve been GM or higher since 2011, but find myself an FO for 2019 (I went for the lowest cost flights in 2018).

My first flight on DL this year was today, MSP-PIT (728 air miles) on a CRJ900. I was upgraded to C+, and had a row to my self (many empty C+ seats around me).

I turned down an upgrade to 1st Class because it was a single seat on the port (left) side. I did a quick risk assessment and decided that the C+ seat was better.

Sorry to let down all the other FOs out there.

I wouldn't call that a let-down...I would call that a bonus for the next FO after you on the upgrade list!

I was 1 of 1 with one seat remaining. No one else to upgrade. The FC seat is empty.

Hmmm was it 1A or another single seat side?

If 1A, I can maybe buy the argument (if you were in 5AB or 5CD) but all the rest of the single seat F seats on the CR9 are superior to any other seat on the plane. Heck I could argue that on a similar 2 hour stage length I'd prefer a single seat CR9 F seat over a 737 / A319 / A320 F seat due to the fact you get window/aisle

The empty 1st Class seat is 3A.

Note:
- C+ overheads are empty, FC overheads are full.
- I have more than enough space for my feet and backpack.
- I have two tray tables.

You turned down one of the best seats in the Delta fleet IMO.

The front row Comfort+ seats on that plane have more legroom; especially the left-side aisle one.
id probably take the upgrade anyway for a PDB but with empty seats around me in C+ itíd be close.

Agreed that the seat is good, but I find the leg room and under seat storage only fair.

Has one of my most enjoyable flights EVER on a CR9, I think 3A. LAX-SFO late afternoon, no work to do, so had some lubrication in the SC, then a PDB, and something more once up there. Had the music pumping in the headphones, leaning against the fuselage with the window that seems larger than most others (is it indeed a larger window?). Sun warming my face, sunglasses on, watching the coastline scroll by underneath. So nice. Was imagining I was on board my own Gulfstream with a sunroof. Across the aisle, poor first world citizens doing their spreadsheets and emails.... yuk.

I mean an empty seat in a 2-seater C+ seat is nice, but I prefer the better thigh support in the deeper FC seat, and yeah, 2-4A are hard to beat.
Row 5 has tons of legroom, but tray tables in the armrest means less lateral room for my thighs.

Note, my thighs are not THAT huge.

I was just in 3A less than 48 hours ago. You did well in skipping it. I left some unpleasant staining.

I'd take the upgrade - F seats have better cushioning and support. Counting on empty Y seats is risky - they could be filled with standby passengers at the last minute.

Well, this is some weird FO bragging. Miss silver showing the world how glamorous it can be to decline the coveted RJ upgrade...

"I'LL SHOW YOU DELTA & FLYERTALK."

The F seats are also about 3Ē wider, another comfort factor.

Note, I am a petite woman.

I feel like this is what Mark Twain would do, like pretending whitewashing the fence is fun...

You guys know what the real upgrade is? Declining the UG is the new UG... Let everyone else go to the front and you can have the whole back to yourself...
