Do you have a Skymiles credit card? If so, you can use its exclusive option to "Pay with Points". You would purchase all three tickets on one itinerary, and at checkout you get a fixed rate of $0.01 per point for your Skymiles.

So, if you were buying tickets for 3 people, and had 14,999 SkyMiles in your account, you would not be able to use PWM at all. 15,000 miles would take $50 off of each of the 3 tickets, but there is no option to apply $150 to one ticket and leave the others at full price - or spread the discount around in any other way.

But only in 5,000 mile/$50 increments, and only applied evenly across all tickets in the PNR.

Not so lucky though if OP was rounding up from a number below 120k though ha.

It might be easier to think of PWM as being $50 coupons that you can buy for 5,000 miles each. You can apply as many coupons to your ticket as you can afford, but you have to put the same number of them on each ticket.
The other weakness of PWM is that you can *only* use them in 5,000 mile/$50 increments. If you want to buy a ticket that is $501, you can either use 50,000 miles and pay $1 on a credit card (along with the TSA fees), or you can use 55,000 miles and effectively pay $550 for a $500 ticket - and STILL have to pay the TSA fees separately.
