Delta Fare Class R ?

I'm looking at a mileage ticket MSP-SYD that goes MSP-DTW-LAX-SYD.

I was asking for the Comfort+ or Premium category. LAX-SYD shows as Fare Class R.

I hope somebody can tell me what "R" is?

Date of travel? I'm thinking Premium Select.

I'm pretty sure "R" is just one of the premium cabin award fare buckets. (Such as "N" is the Main Cabin award) I know that Complementary Medallion Upgrades within the U.S typically rebook into ("RU") for Premium, so it's possible the two might share some space. Don't have anything to back either of those claims up besides what I've noticed on my itineraries over the years.

IIRC it was Dec 5, 2019. I'm actually interested in Feb 2020 but couldn't look that far ahead just now.

Since domestic flights have C+ and not PS, to me this observation suggests that it's an award ticket in C+ and not PS. There's a big difference, especially for a very long flight.

My guess is that by the date of travel, DL will be using an aircraft with both PS and C+ on this route.

R is no longer used for domestic FC fares as of last month and is only used for PS now. All domestic FC flights now use JCDIZ fares for paid fares and O/OU for award tickets/comp UGs.
SJC ORD LDR likes this.

If R is PS now what is C+?

Usually W, sometimes S (or SU).

True PS will be either G A P or R (for awards).

I pawed through my history and reproduced the original request.

One-way mileage ticket 12/5/19 MSP-SYD 94,000 miles

MSP-DTW showed as Comfort+ (S)
DTW-LAX showed as Comfort+ (S)
LAX-SYD showed as Premium Select (R)

When I checked "View Upgrade Eligibility" ... the first two legs said Not Eligible, but it was simply silent on the LAX-SYD Premium Select leg. Being a total Pollyanna and chronically hopeful, this got me excited at the long shot of an upgrade.

I'm trying to patch this together with a repositioning cruise from Sydney to Singapore, and then might have just enough AA miles for their Business Class flight home.
