honestly who cares? (Short of 10 people standing in the entire F aisle) whether in Y or F I am usually watching tv or on my laptop. I literally don’t care to police the lavs and get angry over it.

Technically the the captain and first officer are not paying for the “premium experience” of D1 and F should they have to go to the back to use the bathroom or as someone else suggested should they wear diapers?
Exactly! And complaining about a 737-900 is a legit argument with the cart blocking the lavs. Who cares what lav they use? Yes, let's not line up 5 deep in first class to wait... but come on. Some people on here make me laugh.

Certainly this thread has a slight air of elitism about it. I’m catching a whiff of class struggle that permeates the American society and really shows up in places where economics creates division. Concerning the poster TheHorta while I find him generally hilarious and that sometimes he can “pet the cat backwards” (as we like to say in our parts of the Swamp) he is actually truly elite status but I always have sensed a certain pirate (or arms dealer) mind set that tomorrow it could all be gone and so what...
Concerning the queu to the lavatories I myself always make it a point to “crop dust” those in first on my way to the back of the plane...when I sit in first I’m assuming that everyone else is doing the same and aim my air dispenser accordingly..

This might come as a shock to you, but we live in a capitalist society. People pay different prices and expect different levels of service.

Do you invite the homeless into your residence to eat or use the bathroom? I applaud you if you do.

People who sit in first class come from all walks of life. The rich who can afford it, frequent flyers who earn it. Maybe someone middle class who is treating themselves on the one trip a year they can afford. Should they not expect a little special treatment?

LOL

As far as this thread is concerned, I have witnessed a blatant disregard for the closed "curtain" between first and the rest of the cabin. I have seen it from both sides of the curtain and it is a sad reminder that some people have no civility. I am not just talking about sneaking by it, but literally flinging it up in the air as they make their entrance. How extremely rude and disrespectful to the FA and those of us respecting societal norms. People like this are the reason the FA make so called "elitist" announcements, and draw a hard line.

If people could be courteous and respectful, it would be easier for FA to make exceptions using common sense.

This whole thread is yet another example of why we can't have nice things.

How long is reasonable to wait? Part of the problem is service starts before the pilots turn off the seatbelt light due to American pilots being extremely risk-averse. This doesn't happen in Europe where KLM and others shut off the seatbelt light as soon as the plane hits 10k feet.

I remember a specific flight from RIC-LGA where I was sitting in 1A (F, probably upgraded but I don't remember exactly). We sat on the runway for 20 minutes or so waiting for clearance to take off due to timing into NYC airspace. I tried to follow the rules and wait for the seatbelt sign to go off before getting up to use the lav. Unfortunately, I didn't realize I was on a CR7 and not a CR9; the former doesn't have a forward lav. By the time service finished and the cart wasn't blocking the aisle anymore, we were on approach and the seatbelt sign was back on. I've never been more relieved to make it into a terminal than after that flight.

When I buy a F ticket, I see advertised perks such as SkyPriorty, Free Bags, a bigger, free drinks and sometimes even meals, and even getting on and off the plane first, but where in the advertised perks on the website is “Lower Passenger to Lav Ratio”?

I’m pretty capitalistic but we all go to the bathroom. Not everyone can hold it and the airlines don’t always have their aircraft setup to realistically expect everyone to use the lav in their cabin, especially when the FAs have carts blocking the aisle for 20-30 min or more. There’s also nothing special about the lavs in domestic F. Passengers in Int’l J/F have a case where the lavs do come with increased amenities (and sometimes more space too).

On today’s flight, I used the F lav despite being seated in C+. Flight had been fairly bumpy. We finally hit some smooth air though we were told to expect more bumps as we made our way to ATL. The Y lavs filled up quickly with lines m. No one was in the F lav. I went and used it so that I would minimize the amount I was out of my seat unbelted and prevent myself from being told to return to my seat if I was waiting in the back and we hit turbulence again.

So what happens when I did actually did pay for it but then due to IROPS get rebooked into a flight where F was already full and am I now seated in Y? (As happened when I got rerouted the other day).

Did they make this announcement unprompted? If so, that is incredibly annoying and uncalled for.
All they have to say is, Y pax stick to Y lavs only. If they feel they have to tack on this kind of threat, well that's just all attitude and no respect towards customers.

Isn't DL's A350 particularly miserly on bathrooms? I believe the back galley area has NONE.
Yes, it is. There are fewer lavatories on Delta's A350 than the 747 it replaced or the A350s flown by other airlines.

So if you are on BA or VA in downstairs business, can you go upstairs?

When Delta flew the 747, I routinely went up without a problem.

On AUS-SEA flight (739ER), the flight attendants allowed Y passengers to use the F lav when the service cart was in the aisle. Once the aisle was clear, the FA's started sending Y passengers to the Y lavs. Seems like a reasonable policy.

I've seen FA's from various airlines allow that plenty of times.
It could well be that the OP's FA may have also allowed the same on her/his good day.
Most FA's are reasonable and fine to deal with, but some can be moody.

Everyone has a bladder that eventually needs to be emptied. I have never felt any animosity towards a coach passenger using an F restroom. If you care about such things then I feel sorry for you.

On BA you are usually asked to stay downstairs. Not sure about Virgin Australia.
