LAS-AMS Non stop for one week in January?

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered already, but I was looking at an award ticket for early Jan. and noticed that DL was operating a nonstop from LAS to AMS? A little digging on Google Flights shows that they're selling tickets for a few dates one week in January - that is all I see (Jan 6, 11, 12).

What's the idea behind this? Wish it'd be a long term option!

CES runs 1/8-1/11.

Interesting! I had never seen a route like this pop up with award availability.

They also have a special flights from ICN, PVG, and NRT for the week.

Depending on scheduling, one off flights like these for special events can create great mileage and upgrade opportunities on the reverse or positioning flights. If you want to get out of Vegas for the week of CES while everyone else is flying in, you may be able to find a killer deal on a wide body flight :)

Yep.. some good deals that week. Last year we rode on a 737 with less than 10 people from LAS-BNA. Even first was not full.. easy silver upgrade, and flying partner.

Lots of special flights that week, some are positioning.

Demand tends to be in one direction based on the start/end dates of CES so makes sense that the opposite direction flights have award availability

Shockingly, they even have the CES week run from LAS to PVG (Shanghai) on a B777!!

lowmiles Dec 11, 2018 3:48 pm

CES is DL's biggest money maker out of any group all year. That's why extra flights.

nw6338 Dec 11, 2018 4:42 pm

Are they cutting some other routes that week due to it being a slow time of year? Where are all these 777s coming from?

There's slack in widebody fleet utilization throughout the winter.

Actually, we have a existing thread. See for yourself.

I got lucky about 15 years ago when I happened to notice that SQ (then, still a partnering with DL) was running a non-stop all J class flight from LAS/HKG/SIN in February. That itinerary did not last long.
These flights were so new that awards tix were widely available. We had a great few days in HKG

Very soon. They will start direct flight LAS-AMS by operated 787-9 Dreamliner.

Flew LAS-ICN-LAS for $2000 in D1 on a new 350 last year on the positioning flights. I’m pretty sure most of the D1 cabin was filled with people on passes.
Been looking for low cost flights for next month but not seeing them yet - I’m guessing the positioning flights are not from LAS this year, that DL has figured how to have planes in place without having to offer the big discount.

<fingers crossed> Rumor from my DL insider friend says one flight/week might be on KL's 747 switching over from LAX. </fingers>

The 747s are being retired. Regardless the KL 787 has the best hard product of KLM. It's the same seat as the AF BEST seats, with slight differences.

Correct! All the 747 has already retired. I already flew on 747-400M and the registration number is PH-BFR.
