FO to GM - shy MQDs.

So Ive got two more flight scheduled this year (JFK-SFO and one way JFK-FLL). Those should take care of my MQMs (need 641) however I need $1312 in MQDs. These two flights were pretty cheap flights ($600 total) so I am trying to figure out how to get that extra spend. Right now I can buy up on the JFK-SFO flight to Delta One for $965. Does it make sense to buy it? From what Ive read I likely wont get the upgrade on that flight as Id be low man on the totem pole of status. I also have a credit of $200 so that helps defer. Make sense to buy up?

thanks in advance for advice!

Depends on your travel schedule next year. Main GM benefits are STE+ (aka lounge access for international travel), SKY boarding, and an earlier window for C+/F.

None of those scream worth $950 vs keeping FO with a big rollover next year unless you have a fair amount of international travel for the lounge or want a slightly higher chance for C+/F.

If you've already made up your mind that you want GM, taking the JFK - SFO upgrade is reasonable - at least you'll get D1 and lounge access out of it

Would fee-waived (normally $75) Same Day Changes be valuable to you?

If you're suggesting that the OP could SDC from a nonstop to a longer routing, this would earn additional MQMs (and MQSs) but not MQDs.

i think he is asking if the sdc benifet is something that would be of value to the op. Gold is the level you get free sdcs so if that is very valuable going forward getting gold is more inportant. I use sdc a lot and is very valuable to me as a plat.

In this case I do think it makes sense to spend the $965, which is really only $765 with your credit. You'll also get to fly transcon D1 which is nice. The jump between FO and GM is significant because of Sky Priority, international lounge access and same day change. Don't count on upgrades.

The other option, of course, is to try to get the fee waiver with a Delta Amex card before the end of the year. You would need to spend $25,000 on the card by 12/31/18. Do you have business expenses that you could charge to this amex?

Then it sounds like DeltaOne is in your near future
But don't dawdle because fares and inventory are always varying, and rarely does it vary downward!

Great information, I’m going for it. I have about $6k still to go on the Amex card and may make it but what the heck, let’s go for Delta One

It would be nice to sit in Delta One and who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky on some good upgrades next year.

Thanks for for the feed back.

You could pay for my new roof ($9195) and that'll get you over your MQD waiver
Enjoy D1, it's a spoiling type of trip!

Delta One sounds like more fun than a roof.

Having done the former, and working on the latter, you're absolutely right.
