NYC Area Weather Waiver - Oct 27, 2018

Delta just issued a waiver for travel to/from/through the NYC area this Saturday. JFK, LGA, EWR, SWF, and HPN are included.

I'm currently in Europe but scheduled to fly back on Saturday through JFK to Seattle. I checked the New York forecast, and it calls for heavy rain and heavy wind in the morning but tapering off through the day.

I've been caught in enough JFK messes that I've learned to avoid them when I can, but I haven't been paying close attention to US weather this week. For those of you stateside (and specifically in the Northeast), how bad is it looking for Saturday? Right now I land around 1pm, and my connection is around 4pm. I could change to go through CDG/AMS, but that would mean I would depart here 4 hours earlier (at 6am - yuck!) to make connections. Thanks in advance!

If JFK is open your in-bound flight to JFK will operate. (RJs may not be so lucky.) JFK-SEA on mainline is a pretty safe bet. Only you can determine your disutility of getting up 4 hours earlier vs. getting stuck in a possible JFK cluster....

Yes, I know. I am mainly asking if there is a big anticipated weather event shaping up in the US that I should know about. I'm inclined to leave my return as-is, but just wanted to ask (and start a thread about the waiver for others to see).

I imagine the cause of this waiver is due to the remnants of Hurricane Willa, originally a Pacific hurricane that is expected to arrive in the NY area this weekend.

Flew into ATL today and from about FL12-8000 it was VERY bumpy. Unusually so. There is a lot of wind energy-I imagine its gonna be bad this weekend.

The East Coast is expecting the first nor'easter of the year. I've been keeping an eye on it because I'm flying into Boston on Saturday. They are expecting wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph on Saturday. It looks like it should blow through and be much better by Sunday.

its going to be disgusting

I started a thread about this yesterday but was a day too quick, apparently.

Slated to fly JFK-ATL-CMH Saturday at 11:30 and there's no way I'm trying that, so I'm now going Sunday at 1pm.

It’s supposed to start late Friday and go through around sundown Saturday. High winds and a lot of rain, obviously they will prioritize larger planes but I wouldn’t want to fly in and out that day.

Yes, Hurricane Willa. We're expecting Nor'easter torrential rain and winds in DC this afternoon and overnight, to end hopefully tomorrow late morning so disruption could be brief.

Any delays so far for anyone? DL661 is surprisingly still showing on time, which would've been my flight out today but I really didn't want to play the "JFK on a bad day" experience.
