Mileage Run on AF

Before I book this, I want to make sure I'm doing this right. If I read the DL website right, if I buy a business class ticket on AF for a trip to say...Asia, then I will earn 40% of the actual mileage flown in MQD's, correct? So if that flight is 20,000 miles long, then I will earn 8,000 MQD's.

Is this correct? Or am I looking at this the wrong way. I found a pretty cheap RT fare from NYC to Asia in Business and I want to buy it before the price goes up, plus it's just enough MQD's to put me over the top for DM again this year, since I'm having a bit of a lighter travel year than usual.

Thanks in advance!

Correct. So I booked a $1900 package on Expedia for 5 nights to Rome, ticketed by AF (but mostly on DL metal) and received $4000 MQD for it.

B-a-a-a-rgain!

I have a feeling DL is going to catch on to this and find a way to change it.

If it's a package, make sure you're not getting a bulk or consolidator fare. The rules for such special fares are different.

Also, I know you are booking with AF, but I had a KL itin that was business class that booked into O for the EU-Asia legs. Very, very cheap ticket -- but no earnings. As MSPEconomist notes, watch the fare class.

Does this also apply to KLM-coded tickets?

Is there a simple way to know which fares are different (bulk or consolidator)? Which fare classes are good or not??

Biz is 40%, full economy is 25%, economy is 20% and discounted economy is 10%.

There are NO fare classes on the AF equivalency table that earn nothing. Take a look at it. I don't see an "O" class listed on the KL chart, either. Are you certain this was not a DL itinerary on KL metal? Because then you're stuck with DL's exception fares table, which sucks.

Be careful. Fare classes which are not listed earn nothing. They're not listed as earning nothing.

I was going to say the same thing. I bought a package on Orbitz and earned 20% the distance as my MQD, not 40%. It was still fine for me but if you're aiming for a specific MQD target, buy direct from AF.

The three non earning flights were all booked on KL stock through KL, with KL flight numbers. One was on KL metal, two on CZ metal -- all booked in O class, which as MSPeconomist notes Fare classes which are not listed earn nothing. The intra-Europe KL flights did earn both the Diamond bonus on base miles and the 100% class bonus. I did earn well, but not as well as I'd have earned if the EU-Asia flights had posted.

Doesn't matter for non DL coded flights. Only difference bulk fares make is when the flight is DL coded. Then it earns like a partner coded flight. Ie a percent based on fare class. The whole reason partner coded flights earn this way is DL doesnt know what was paid. Same thing goes for bulk tickets. However since partner tickets already earn this way, it doesn't matter. Either way it earns the same.

AS for the KL O class. Anytime a class isn't listed it earns nothing. This may be on purpose, or could be an oversight. However till they decide otherwise O class earns zero.
