CNBC's Phil LeBeau said yesterday on air (no web link) that all they are waiting on is the certificate. No additional testing has to be done.
Delta remains optimistic, but it is out of their hands and could go down to the last day or two. So frustrating.

I think we all know the reason why that is...
I don't think that DL charged a premium on that flight, if that's what you mean. I think the higher price is just higher demand because lots of people want to try the new plane. If DL gives all those people a free change at the last minute, they will lose a lot of money flying a largely empty plane.

I think, if you're persistent, you'll get your free change. But I wouldn't necessarily expect it on the first call, and I would definitely expect you will need a supervisor to override.

Edit: Since you paid a premium, the fare difference will likely cover your change fee. So there's that. In that sense, everyone gets a "free" change

If all that's missing is the piece of (figurative) paper, I'm optimistic. Before, it sounded like there were still more proving flights with FAA inspectors onboard required. Our new rail service from Fort Worth to DFW was at risk of not operating due to pending FRA signoffs, and those still came through at the 11th hour.

If you booked early enough, you might be able to change for free since they changed the flight number. (Or at least that's what it says when I view my reservation)

That's not grounds for a free change that I've ever heard of

I missed the part where the scheduled departure also needs to change by an hour or more. I guess Delta displays this generic message every time something changes on a reservation that wasn't done voluntarily.

It usually says " If you are not satisfied with this updated itinerary, you *may* be eligible to change your flight(s) at no extra cost" (emphasis added) and it also says "Conditions Apply" with a link.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

"Delta has made the decision to postpone the service debut of the Airbus A220 due to delays in certification processes that are required by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
No customer impact is expected as a result of this equipment change and no flights will be cancelled because of A220 certification. The flights will be operated by other aircraft and changes are expected to be fully visible in schedules on Sunday."

SOURCE: DELTA AIR LINES.

Just to give a source: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-d...KCN1PJ271?il=0

This is unfortunate, for sure, as I was looking forward to experiencing this new airplane for myself.

Please always give sources when making announcements. Edit: Thanks factorr

With no new date announced, makes it even harder for anyone who wants to change their flight.

Sigh - I had a positioning flight the night before, LAX-JFK. I wonder if DL will provide a full credit for this....

Any chance of them changing back to plan now that the shutdown is (at least temporarily) over?

No idea - some accounts said the process was delayed by several weeks, others indicated that all that was pending was a final sign-off. Even if it is the latter, I'd imagine there's a substantial backlog of things on the FAA's plate that would come before signing off on the A220.
