not exactly transcon, but before Covid-19, I remembered a midnight SLC-JFK arriving at JFK at 3 or 4am using an A220...

My interpretation of DL's remarks on the subject is that they prefer to use these planes on strategic routes where they are trying to win over passengers. I believe they prefer the economics of running bigger planes (739/757) on transcon routes, and if the route can't support a bigger plane, than they simply won't operate the route. There may be exceptions, but that's my interpretation.

That said, nobody really knows what the airline industry is gonna look like next year, so I think anything is possible.

I have no idea what the PDEW is between RSW and LAX, but if AS is going to start nonstops on the route, that will steal some passengers from the ATL connections to LAX as well as some who actually drive the 2+ hours up to TPA for the DL nonstops. My wife and I take this trip 4-5 X annually using either the NS out of TPA or the ATL connection. And our adult kids out in LA do the same in reverse. If DL doesn't answer the call, the new nonstops on AS will get our business. I realize that in and of itself, that means nothing. But I am confident that DL, with a healthy presence in RSW, would be able to knock AS right out of the picture if it added a nonstop between SW Florida and LAX. Just surmising that the A220 might be ideal for that kind of long, initially thin domestic route.

There was supposed to be a SEA - ATL flight on the A220 that would have been timed to leave SEA in the early evening and get to ATL in the middle of the night and then turn around and leave ATL super early and get to SEA early in the morning.

I don't think DL will be starting new routes any time in the near future in SEA. They're still adjusting the hub to the new demand level in the COVID19 world. Some of the older routes (SEA-AUS/BNA/RDU/MKE/MCI/MCO/TPA/CVG) have been suspended since March, and I think those would return before DL starts a new and unproven route. It's possible we'll see DL restart these services when there's demand on the A220 - BNA is still tentatively scheduled to resume in mid September on the A220.

Glad to see the more generous C+ cabin, but I was hoping for a 4th row of First class, too.

Some of those (AUS and RDU especially) are business heavy. New leisure routes would presumably come before those come back.

I've flown this aircraft four times now (3 F, 1 C+), and agree the C+ seats are considerably more comfortable than the F seats. It's like nobody ever actually sat in the F seats before they went into production. Big fail. I do like the nice big video screen in F. Really bad wifi experiences my last two flights. Basically zero connectivity.

You’ve described it perfectly. The screens are great, but the seats themselves are like no one from R&D ever actually tested them. Hard, cramped, narrow, and for no reason. Honestly if they had just fitted the MD-88 F seats I’d never have complained.

Since the A220’s introduction it seems DFW (my home airport) has been a bit of a focus city for the A220. I think pre-Covid every flight to SLC, MSP, DTW, LGA and JFK was on the 220. Seems a lot of A319s and A320s are creeping into the DFW schedule on flights I’ve booked to MSP and SLC. Where are the 220s going? Just upguaging to keep more middle seats open?

SLC seems to see the A220 a decent bit.

Many 220s are headed to the desert because almost all the First Officers are new hires about to get furloughed.

DL Grounding most of the A220 fleet

Well it appears that DL is temporarily sending most of the 220 fleet to the desert since 75% of the FOs are on the furlough list. Unknown at this point if this will delay the inaugural 223 flight.

That tweet is misinformed. It is not the entire fleet being grounded. This was planned awhile ago due to impending pilot furloughs and the need to train more senior FOs on the 220.
