About 10 years ago, I bought an award ticket for my wife using miles. I was a Silver M, she had no elite status.She flew AF JFK-CDG-ICN. She got an OPUP to J on one or both legs.
I flew westbound to ICN from JFK Delta or KE and got squat.
The only connection she had to me was that the miles came from my account.
