Skymiles Account History

Is there a way to get your lifetime account activity from Delta ?
Something beyond the last 365 days... ?

This has probably been asked before but I couldn't find a thread with that subject.

There's no lifetime history, but if you use the custom dates fields in the search you can go back up to 3 years.

I requested farther back once and was told it was possible, but in the end couldn't navigate the maze of redirection between Delta's Skymiles, reservation, and ticketing teams. Or maybe even some others I'm forgetting.

I was told consistently that, in theory, it was possible.

I once worked for an organization that had grown very quickly. By the time I worked there, all our personnel and finance records were in your usual corporate systems with backups, etc.

But if you wanted anything from more than 4 or 5 years back, you had to go down to the basement and boot up the founder's circa 2000 iBook to get the info out of an Access database she'd built back in the day. Apparently the people who deployed the new systems elected to not do any data conversion from that (literally) home baked solution.

So, it was possible to get old data. Just not at all easy or convenient.

Good for them. Data conversions almost always suck.

Last time I checked i could pull up back to at least three years online. Had to set custom date range so didn't cover more than I believe 9 months, otherwise it wouldnt work. This was a at least a year ago though.

Agree - that's part of my job now and it's terrible, even with some of the tools we have available to us. Probably twice a year we would check with our general counsel to see if retention rules had changed at all so we could just abandon the laptop. Literally counting the months until we didn't have to care about it anymore.

Everybody that is considering spending money for data retention/conversion has to answer three questions:
- Am I legally required to keep the data?
- How much will it cost to convert and then maintain the data?
- How many of my customers will stop doing business with me if I ditch the data?

If the answer to #1 is “No”, then you need to do the math to determine a cost-benefit ratio based on #2 and #3.

Has anyone ever pursued this beyond the limited amount of info that's available online and the potential for such old data having been discarded? I note that @alltforsverige mentioned being told it was theoretically possible, and someone in an older thread said the same thing.

I've been building out my flight history and would love to get more granular data if it's possible. I did at one point write in via the website, and got a reply from someone who clearly didn't understand the question and told me to phone in for "online customer support" (after I was first told I could get up to 3 years of info online). If they wanted to charge a small fee (like AA supposedly would do - mentioned in the other thread), I'd be willing to pay it, or maybe someone has the right contact at SkyMiles (the former AC FT rep happily obtained all the info he could for me, which was quite a bit, going well back in to the 90s)...

Early on during shelter-in-place I submitted a question via the DL website's contact form about getting past flight history data (being very clear to say that given everything going on it was totally a low-priority request) to see if I could fill in some gaps in my flight log (not as fun as actually flying, but such was life in the spring of 2020). I finally got a reply 8 months later saying that they were limited to 3 years same as the web site.

Per the other posts you cited, I would also be interested to know if more data is in fact available by an old-fashioned written request to SkyMiles, but it remains a low priority kinda thing so will prob have to wait until the next time I'm really bored

(1) If one charged their flights to a cc which had a longer "look back" period, that might help in getting old info. If you saved the annual summary, that may also provide extra info.
(2) Flying data is generally "pure" text, it takes much less disk space than graphics. Many (DL?) companies have allotted a fixed amount of storage space for trip data and know they can "comfotably" keep x# of years before having to increase storage capacity.
(3) Citibank can go back 10 years, but for old data you may have to make a "request" and wait a few days.

I had an idea... Rather than trying to find a way to mail something to SkyMiles, I tried e-mailing the DL museum and asking whether they might have a contact at DL/SkyMiles who would be able to track down the information. We'll see what they say...

@nrr, I'm sure those are good suggestions, although for me (looking for info from 1999 and older), no help.

I got an e-mail back from someone at SkyMiles/DL who is a "Specialist, SkyMiles Servicing" before Christmas, after the museum forwarded on my e-mail. Which is far better than I got by e-mailing the general customer service people a couple of times a few years back! Here's what she said:

Dear Mr. Smith,

Thank you for reaching out regarding historical SkyMiles data. I received your note, and I am responding on behalf of the Delta SkyMiles team.

Unfortunately, the information you are asking for is not something we provide. Can you please clarify the reason for this request?

I was confused by the comment that it wasn't something they provide. I didn't know whether that meant they didn't have it, or that they had it but wouldn't provide it, for some reason. I sent her a detailed note back, explaining my avgeekiness, mentioning some FTers had heard it was possible to obtain this information (but not succeeded in doing so), and so on. I indicated I would be happy to pay for the information (as, probably, would others), and mentioned that I had seen somewhere that AA can supposedly pull this information.

I haven't heard anything back since then, unfortunately. If I ever do, I'll be sure to post an update.

I got basically the same response some years ago. I have the impression that if there is a legal issue involved they may be willing to spend the resources but not for our personal interest. Was hoping this thread would provide a new insight into how to get this done. Oh well....
