Inflight assault, man allowed to leave airport - Delta messed up

And to top it off Delta gave her a $200 voucher as if that would make it all ok

"...The woman was made to believe that once the plane had landed, she would be escorted off the flight and that the man, which she identifies as “Will,” would be arrested.
Unfortunately, this was not the case, and Luh learned that the man who she claims sexually assaulted her had left the airport.
Luh says Delta issued a $200 travel voucher to her, which didn’t even cover the cost of her flight. She also says that when Los Angeles police officers arrived, they told her that Delta had not followed protocol..."

This one ain’t going away.

Delta doesn't have police powers. Delta can't stop him from leaving. Do wonder why police weren't on seen at arrival.

Delta can't stop him from leaving, but they can contact local law enforcement and delay the opening of the aircraft door to let them on. This one definitely doesn't look good. Not sure exactly what protocol was followed, but I'm sure the request for assistance can/should be made inflight and clearly wasn't.

This seems to happen more and more often. I usually find that I would do exactly what most of these women did: get out of the seat, notify flight attendant, get moved to another seat. Apparently the airlines are just fine with this reaction, and will happily assign a new seat and then hush up and forget about the incident. This is unacceptable. Should I ever find myself in this situation, I hope I can think straight enough to scream for help on top my lungs, so the whole plane will know about the assault and the airlines will have to have police meet the plane upon arrival. Another thought: Does one have to be reasonable when practicing self defense? I was once grabbed on both breasts from behind by a drunk guy at a party, without really thinking, I turned halfway and planted my elbow in his face. Since he was intoxicated, he stumbled backwards and knocked over a drink table as he fell over it. Everyone cheered, cause it wasn't his first rodeo, just his first forceful rejection. He hurt his back (not my intention, but also not sorry), and couldn't work for a few days. At what point can airline employees get physically involved? Subdue someone? Tape/zip tie someone to a seat?
It seems like it's up to the victims to escalate the situation, so Delta can't deny it happened...

I mean, it should be pretty easy to identify the guy based on his seat, right? And it sounds like the woman made enough of a commotion that those in the seats/rows around her would be able to corroborate her story, or at least confirm that the man in question was in fact the person sitting next to her.

But yes, if something like this comes to the attention of an FA I would expect the crew to contact authorities on the ground and have them meet the flight and sort everything out upon landing. Seems like that would be the minimum duty of care, at least, but based on DL's own statement that law enforcement wasn't contacted until after landing, they absolutely missed on this one.

I’d even go so far to say that if you’re clearly guilty of physical assault (sexual and/or violent) while on a plane you go on the No-Fly list for at least a period of time, say 2-5 years.

I wonder how these things are prosecuted. Unless another passenger witnessed the assault (which would be difficult in a darkened cabin or if the woman is using a blanket) it seems to be reduced to she said vs he said. It seems we are headed to a situation where woman flying alone are going to demand to be seated next to other woman/ families and not with the general population on the plane.

The linked story says she had a medical exam nearly immediately (it sounds like) after the flight, so there is perhaps some actual forensic evidence available. I have no idea about any of that stuff, though.

As for your last sentence, it's already occurred:

Lifetime would make me happy.

I love how FA's keep saying that "they are primarily there for your safety" but apparently that only extends to evacuating a plane. I'd say there needs to be more training regarding how FA's react to these situations.

I don't have anything meaningful to add other than to say that this is awful, and I am so sorry this happened to this pax and for each and every pax who this happens to.

More likely than not, the woman is right and the predator is wrong. However, this is not always the case. About 5 years ago, a woman on Delta was wrong.

She and a man were chatting. They were jiving each other, making up stories, obvious to both that they were making up stuff. The woman claimed she was a national reporter on ESPN, which was false. The man tried to top that by saying he was a secret agent, like James Bond. That is when the woman complained to the FA and said he claimed he had a secret weapon, sleep gas. The man was arrested for saying he had sleep gas. The man never demanded to be flown to Cuba or he would unleash the gas. He only said he had sleep gas in his architect's blue print tube.

The title should read "alleged inflight assault" until the man is at least questioned.

Respectfully, your story is really a non sequitur here. This is physical, sexual assault. What you’re talking about is a different animal entirely.

I was on a flight from LAS to JFK where a women kept accusing the guy in the aisle seat of looking at her. I was in the window she was in the middle. 5 minutes after boarding she snapped and yelled, in the air she snapped a few times yelling at him, and when we arrived at JFK as the guy walked out the airport she called him all types of names.

I never once saw him look or do anything to her. FAs never even came to the row in any of her fits.
