Have 70K Mile Delta One O/W TATL Awards Quietly Disappeared???
I've been working on some 70K itineraries, and, all of a sudden - POOF - they're gone! Am I missing something?
All former 70K itins, now seem to be 82K! I do see a spattering of 75Ks, but, they're weird itins: eg: JFK / LHR (VS) / CDG for 75K Itins with all DL metal seems to be 82K now - even MONTHS ahead in the off-peak season. PIT/LHR for February is showing 82K O/W and a "discount" of 157K R/T. Any thoughts? Edited to add . . . . I've been watching PIT to Zagreb, Croatia, and, there were 75K awards via SVO on SU - - and they are STILL 75K, but, the surcharge is $398! But, the all DL/AF/KL itins that were 70K yesterday, now all seem to be 82K. |
Basically. The sad result of continuous 70K credit card bonuses I'm sure.

DL over-the-atlantic rates now start at 35K and 82K (YSV350 and CSV820) for coach/business which have a 90-day advance purchase requirement. Partner over-the-atlantic are 32.5K and 75K. No advance purchase required, but as is typically the case, very limited availability. SU has had high YQ for quite some time (including for US origin awards).

I would find Delta's award pricing more tolerable if there was actually availability in their lower award buckets.
I can go to United and find tons of availability in their 60K one-way business class to Europe bucket (as well as more and better partners). Delta? Minimum price of 82K and good luck even finding that on most routes - ever. |
What a .... hole program it's become.

The economy is good. D1 load factors are quite high, and there's not much motivation for them to let the seats go for free. This will change once the economy dives again, but for now it's hard to blame them.

Keep in mind Karen at the ATL Freddie Awards was SHOCKED I was upset that Delta + partner = 2 tickets. This says it all IMO. They are as nuts as... well... you name it!

One of the blogs is reporting that DL is now 164,000 SkyMiles for J trans-atlantic.
I am even more thankful now that I moved all of my flying to OW last year. |

A 157K award is just a combo of a DL over-the-water CSV820 award and a VS over-the-water CSMG750 award (VS LHR-JFK + DL JFK-PIT). It doesn't have anything to do with a roundtrip purchase.
FWIW, there's currently some pretty cheap coach roundtrip awards to Europe. BOS-LHR is available for 32K roundtrip. These YSVR160 fares are good from 10/1 - 3/31. JFK-LHR is slightly more at 36K roundtrip. JFK-CDG and JFK-MAD are available at 40K roundtrip. Note these are all roundtrip fares (you can't purchase as one-way's) as identified by the 'R' in their fare codes. |
