Cannot find an answer! Connecting flight luggage?

Hello, so I called delta three times each time I got a different answer. Please help.
I have an itinerary that goes from chicago to saudi Arabia with a connecting flight in new York. Now the domestic flight is handled by delta. The international flight is handled by saudi.

question is I have 4 extra bags I want ti check in. From which airline should I buy the extra luggage?
I don't want to be in a position where I pay twice.

thanks!

Do you have a single ticket, or two tickets CHI-NYC + NYC-Saudi Arabia?

If you have a single ticket, you will check in with Delta and pay Delta's fees.

If you have two tickets, you will probably be forced to pay for nags in Chicago, check them to NYC, collect them and check bags with Saudia (paying again).

Building off of 3Cforme's comments, assuming you're flying CHI-JFK-RUH, on a single ticket, your bags will be checked through and you won't see them until you land outside the U.S.. Not sure how Saudi Arabia does international arrival bags or if you're connecting on to another destination after RUH. On the way home, you'll collect your bags at terminal 1 and recheck just outside the baggage hall with Delta. You should pay Saudia on the way home for the extra bags.

If CHI-JFK-RUH on two tickets, you'll collect your bags from Delta and check them in again with Saudia, and pay twice.

If you're flying CHI-LGA,JFK-RUH, on a single ticket or two, you'll have to take your bags from LGA to JFK on your own and recheck with Saudia. If on a single ticket, you shouldn't have to pay again when checking in at JFK.

Hi thank you both for replying so to be more clear it's one ticket chi-nyc-ruh. And the reservation was done with saudi. I know now that the luggage will be going straight to final destination.

so should I buy extra baggage online from saudia or wait till the day of and do that at the counter with delta.

Going you'll pay fees to DL at Chicago. Note if the CHI-JFK flight is marketed as a Saudia flight that you will pay the fees per Saudias baggage policy to Delta. If IT is marketed as a DL flight you'll pay fees per the Delta bag policy .On return regardless of how the return flight is marketed you'll pay the fees per the same airlines policy you paid when departing CHI.

OP - Under US law, the baggage fees will be those of the marketing carrier of the first segment and those will apply to the entire ticket out and back. However, outbound you will pay those fees to DL as the operating carrier of the ORD-JFK segment.

There is no advantage to buying baggage from DL. No discount and it won't go any faster. Better and easier to simply pay at the counter.
