You do realize CHC is part of NZ? Yhis isn't ITI at AKL but IT'D. You would clear customs and immigration at AKL in your example.

SYD, BNE, & PER have separate international & domsetic terminals that require a bus trip between. However at PER QF operate domestic & LHR international flights from the same terminal. Worth good money to avoid domestic <---> international transfers at SYD Makes no sense to have multiple freq flyer memberships in a alliance (QF BA). Having multiple ffp’s with low balances is never a good idea. You may never get enough ff miles/points to be of use before they expire. Adding frequent miles in a ff program that you can use, are worth more than ff miles in an orphan ffp that you will never use even, if the earning rate is nominally better. QF is a very poor ffp. In Oneworld AA & BA are generally better, but does depend on what your objectives area. And [currently] AS is better again (QF & BA are partners & AA a limited partner) NZ is UA Star Alliance partner so would get UA ff miles for NZ flights. AS rules limit the number of partner carriers that can appear on an award ticket, so if you're USA based and need AA rather than AS for domestic connecting flights, your award ticket options are very limited (or very expensive when you must use more than one award for the itinerary you want). |

Nope. I actually cleared at CHC. The agents washed my hiking sticks and asked me to identify the food I brought in on the x-ray. They ran a flight from AKL - CHC that was solely for international connections. So, there were no passengers who originated in NZ. It was treated as an I-I connection. I even got to visit the NZ lounge in the int'l terminal and take a shower.

Technically, HNL->AKL and HNL->SYD are both inter-island. (I know that won't help getting mileage credit. Just sayin'!)

Are you saying that Australia is an island? |

One other random thought to add - IMO, BNE is much worse than CHC/AKL/MEL/SYD. I'm not sure what the heck it is about that place, but it's always a crowded fiasco everywhere you look, and the clientele seems to be a 24x7x365 Schoolies party. Kind of like an upside down MCO. If all else is equal, I'd try to connect... pretty much anywhere else.

I've had it both ways there, but also been thrown out when one of the x-ray scanners was found to be non functional. Idiots drained the airport and made everyone go back through security.
So it's not my fave either. |
