Delta changed flight time
Delta has changed a flight reservation (for the second time) for my trip from BOS-LAX in October. It went from a 2PM, to a 12PM, to an 8AM. The only other option that day is a red-eye, which won't work for us. Is there a chance of getting it changed to the red-eye the night before?
Also, the call back time to speak with a representative is currently over two hours. Thanks. |
Changing from 8am to red eye the night before sounds pretty reasonable. Is considering alternate/nearby airports also an option? |
You certainly have a case for getting it changed to the night before, though you're not technically entitled to it. I'd certainly call and ask. What you are entitled to is a full refund, so if the redeye the night before is a comparable price to what you paid for your BOS-LAX ticket, that might be the easiest way to go.

It's possible that they'll let you change it to the night before but it's not necessarily required by the rules.
What they probably WILL do is refund your ticket, and then you can buy another ticket on whatever airline you want. If the red eye the night before is the same price (which seems likely this far out, though it could vary depending on the actual travel days in question) then you just buy that ticket. |
Checking a few days looks like the red eye LAXBOS is sometimes cheaper than day flights. You might be better off taking a fee-less refund and repurchasing. |

Curious if DL is same? BTW AA was per public notice to TAs to handle. |
Update: finally got my callback from Delta, and the agent was able to change both of our tickets to the redeye no problem. She also gave us the option of points reimbursement if we wanted to go that route. She mentioned that the system automatically locks you out of doing it online, but if you call the agents have the OK to be flexible (within reason, obviously).

Do we know this for certain? I ask because recently had AA reservation wiyh same issue. While I know the notice said same day, I went and searched for terms of rebooking since had upgraded family member with SWU. The default terms on change notice did say same day. The actual policy was that if new flights same day weren't to liking, could adjust by one day.

I have never had a problem switching to the day before or after at no cost due to a schedule change. |
I've searched 6 various dates in October (mix of weekday and weekend) and I don't see any redeye's BOS-LAX. I also see the 2pm BOS-LAX still scheduled in October.
OP - are you sure you don't mean LAX TO BOS? |

OP - are you sure you don't mean LAX TO BOS? But, as I posted earlier (and for those that missed it) I was able to get it taken care of by calling. Phone agent was lovely and was able to change it in a jiffy. |
I'll chime in. I just received a full refund of two tickets to Spain due to a schedule change. The agent, who handled this very well, first asked if we wanted to change to flights within a day before or after, free of charge. I said we didn't know what we wanted to change to and if we could just refund. The schedule change had turned a BCN-ATL-MSN connection into 46 minutes, with the next option being a 6 hr layover in ATL. Asking nicely and having a plan is the best approach.
