Wait until it happens on a $17K D1 ticket. That really cuts into your available CL — temporarily anyway.

Did you or your employer actually pay $17K for a single Delta business class ticket? Really?
Yeah, it was $17K. And I did use my Amex Reserve. |

Last October, only once (I wouldn’t do it again). It was WAS (can’t remember which) to SIN on literally a last-minute flight on an A350 from DTW to NRT leg. It was less than 12 hours from purchase to board. Yeah, it was $17K. And I did use my Amex Reserve. |

Guessing it was a refundable fare. Can purchase last min Z departing tomorrow WAS-SIN for $2400 each way, non-refundable.
EDIT: Actually, I got a few details wrong. I looked back in my history and it was 13NOV, from BWI to SIN, but returning to BHM, so multi-city. BWI>DTW>NRT>SIN, returned 20NOV SIN>NRT>DTW>BHM. That, and it was $13K, not $17K. What was strange is that I booked my BHM>LHR at the same time, which was $4K, and Delta did double-authorizations on BOTH charges, which amounted to the $17K. Sorry, I’m getting old. |
i see extra charges from all kinds of merchants on a regular basis. Wait until you have to actually pay before wasting time tracking it down.
99.9% sure there is no issue here. |

That’s a credit card, not a charge card (eg, Amex Green/gold/platinum/Corporate). You mentioned the issue with available credit - wouldn’t be the case with a charge card. It wasn’t a big deal, but it did kick off an alert that my available credit fell below a preset amount, which rarely happens. |

Interesting. I didn’t know there was a difference. It wasn’t a big deal, but it did kick off an alert that my available credit fell below a preset amount, which rarely happens. |

I've been finding it very frustrating recently to deal with preauthorization and pending charges in that many phone agents don't know how to identify them and are very confused when you ask whether something has posted as an actual charge or not.
IMO the OP should check very carefully for duplicate receipts with different ticket numbers in email and by searching delta.dumb and the Saudia website. It seems unlikely, but just in case two tickets were issued, it would be better to deal with this before the flight. Assuming that there hasn't (yet) been any schedule change or other reason for a reissue, there should only be a single 006- ticket number which is the same number on every piece on documentation related to the trip.

No, Delta did not authorize twice. From what I read here, this is my take:
When all works ok, the pending transaction is deleted at the same time the real transaction is posted. So from your point of view, you think of it as one transaction. But behind the scenes, it's always two. For the "auto delete" of the pending transaction to happen, the associated record of charge must match to it. Many things can cause the match to fail but most likely it's some batch job held up somewhere. It could the DL or credit card end. Any pending transaction that doesn't get matched/deleted will eventually expire. At that time, the "hold" against your credit line for that amount will be released. The expiration time frame is variable, but think of it as 7 days +/- a day or 2 and you'd be close most of the time. As long as the pending transaction isn't pushing you up to your credit limit, it's completely harmless. As others have noted, this goes on all the time. It usually goes un-noticed, but airline purchases tend to be larger amounts thus more 'visible'. After speaking with my bank, I then called up delta too, and was told it might be a system glitch that led to another charge which was made 24th evening. |
Now you need to make sure that your ticket isn't cancelled.
|
Been checking my tickets on rhe delta app it isnt saying anything it is cancelled. The original charge has already been posted to my account though
|
Usually though how long does it take for a floating charge to fall off? It has been 3 days since the charged appeared, called up my credit card company and states it takes 5-7 banking days for it to fall off. It was a legit charge though usually my credit card company would post it into my account 2-3 days or less after a charge is made.
|
Update: After 4 days my limit returned to what it should be. Thank guys.
