Given the short timeframe, about the only suggestions are 1) Buy Miles or 2) if you have a family member or friend who can transfer you miles. Everything else may well take too long to post.

Buying 10,000 miles is $350 plus applicable taxes.
Transfer rate for miles is $0.01/mile plus a $30 transaction fee, so $130 for 10,000 miles if you have a family member or friend who can transfer you the miles.

Is a Saturday night stay part of the trip?

If looking to fly to London this coming weekend, it's London Marathon weekend, so I'd expect lower miles availability to be limited.

After a quick NYC-LON search, most availability this weekend is 80k. PHL-LON has some 60k and 70k availability.

Depends on your definition of expensive. Buying miles as posted above is probably the cheapest. Other option is flying Norwegian which should be closer to $500-600 RT even last minute

refunds to credit card on refundable tickets

I nervous on something . I took an up sell offer on line to make my ticket refundable. This is for today . I canceled about 7 hours before flight, did not check check in on line , but when I requested refund , did not go through automatically , said an agent had to review , subject to "audit" -- Is the upselll refundable ticket refundable even less than 24 hours?
This is not a full Y tix.

I got an email from Delta for each passenger confirming my request , but the flight still shows in my acct as "ready for check in "
