Delta 12th man status equals upgrade on partners?

So I wanted to share an experience we had on our last flight. We do not have any elite status with delta other than the promo 12th man status for Washington state residents. When we added our skymiles numbers to our Aeromexico's flight it showed up on our boarding pass as delta silver status. Which allowed us to request an upgrade at the gate. Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

Well by bringing this to DL (and AM's) attention via FT, this sounds like a glitch that will soon be fixed.

Your profile also denotes SPG Gold status. Perhaps a translation there from SPG to DL to AM?

Yeh, something didn't get mapped right. Whether that's on Delta's side or AM's it's hard to say. The OP got a freebie - hope he enjoyed it, and remembers it a time when not all goes well.

If the promotion is truely named “12th Man status”, then Delta should expect some trademark infringement related legal issues involving Texas A&M University.

We got the upgrade from MEX-LAX. The first class cabin was empty so maybe that was part of it. I am not complaining haha but kinda curious why it did it.

My SPG Gold status dropped off a couple weeks ago. So I know for sure it was not from SPG. We never fly Delta and we only have membership to get the free points from the Seahawk's promo. It was a big surprise to see we had any kind of status at all. Maybe it was just a glitch and nothing to do with 12.

I thought it was some sort of military death ritual.

That's the Missing Man.

"12th man" refers to dedicated fans of a sports team that typically has 11 members, like football.

The 12 Status program is an excellent one. I hope they continue it. It certainly got the attention of many Seattlites.

The program is specifically called 12Status.

That said, the Seahawks have a licensing deal with Texas A&M, as a simple internet search will show. No trademark infringement involved here - both organizations have worked together to share the 12th Man phrase since 2006.

Only partially correct. The Seahawks can use the phrase "12th Man" but cannot use on social media or promotional material or merchandise. They were paying Texas A&M licensing rights to use "The 12th Man" but the agreement has been revised.

Texas A&M University has reached a new deal with the Seattle Seahawks to allow the NFL team to continue using the phrase "12th Man." There will be new restrictions on the use of the trademarked slogan, however. That's what the university declared on Thursday after announcing a licensing agreement with the Seattle Seahawks to allow the NFL team to continue to use the trademarked phrase, with some new restrictions. A&M owns the rights to the phrase, but it has licensed it to the Seahawks since 2006.

An extension of that deal was announced Thursday. But A&M officials said it added new stipulations to the contract. Now, the team won't be allowed to reference to the "12th Man" on its stadium's ring of honor, a displaythat recognizes great players in the team's history. The professional football team also won't reference the "12th man" on social media, according to A&M. (One apparent exception: The Seahawks did reference the tradition in announcing the new deal on social media.)
