Help changing middle name profile
I am trying to add my TT number to my SM profile. Instruction states names must match completely.
I need to change the middle name from my initial to my full middle name. When I try to make the change, a popup advises I must do this over the phone and provides an 888 number. For the past week, the wait has been over 2 hours. I have zero status at the moment (Flying Colonel for life... life seems to mean the life of the program as the program is no more....) Do I need to wait out the two hours or is there some other method to change a middle name in the Sky Miles profile? |
What does the hold message say? Is the desk you call specific or a general skymiles number?
For the general numbers, usually they offer a callback option if wait times are high. Maybe you can try the general number, and once through, tell them what you want to do. |
There is no option other than phone. For some name changes, DL will ask you to fax/email proof before it makes a change to the name on an account.
Just hit the callback button or dial the call and put it on speaker/mute while you do something else. |
What time of day are you calling? Calling mid-week early morning like 5-7am eastern usually gets through with minimal hold time even without status, barring Delta dealing with an IRROP event. Also though the prompt says to call in have you tried Twitter? A middle name should be something they can do since you are just updating from initial to name - shouldn't require any special documentation of the name like a typical name change would.

Save yourself a lot of time. Fax a letter with an explanation of the change (and your Sky Miles Number) and a copy of your passport or driver's license to Delta SkyMiles fax at 404-773-1945
It will likely be changed in less than 48 hours. |
Solved
Thanks everyone for suggestions.
The 888 number on the profile page when I tried to change my name does not have the option for a call back. I tried the regular default SM 800 number and selected the call back option. Middle name now updated. |
Be aware that if you use a travel agent, anything in your middle name in your travel agent's profile will get pushed across to Delta and will be mashed up with your first name. I spoke to a long time Delta gate agent and she said it had been that way 'forever'. It's a Delta issue. John Edward Smith becomes Johnedward Smith.

If the TA keeps the middle name blank, will the middle name from DL populate through on the ticket or do I need to call DL after TA provides PNR?
If I have to call DL, is it difficult to have changed? |

If I have to call DL, is it difficult to have changed? Your TA should be using your full legal name on all tickets, so that the ticket matches your travel documents. Your need to update your record with your regular TA (or fire that TA if they insist on doing this wrong). It's hard/impossible/expensive to make a name change after a ticket has been issued. |

It's hard/impossible/expensive to make a name change after a ticket has been issued. exact names were required), then it needs to be updated. TA's can make minor changes to tickets they have made with little or no problems from Delta, if need be. Of course, it is easier to have it done correctly from the start. |
Probably will have to source a new TA. Have not used a T/A in over 15 years. Complicated travel has just roared and I am at it again. Old T/A may not even exist for all I know, changed geo several time since the days of T/A issuing multiple tickets per week for me. I supposed in this day of digital tickets, it does not matter where T/A is located. That said, probably should be a T/A office with a good report with their local DL sales office.

IME, this does not have any bearing on precheck or GE working correctly, though.

I have a similar problem as the OP, so I thought I would post to this thread. My profile name is correct in my SkyMiles account. However, the name listed under Secure Flight Passenger Data is incorrect and has been preventing me from getting TSA PreCheck. If I use the Identity Verification Form on the Delta website, will this change the name under the Secure Flight Passenger Data?

into your account and check the "save secure flight date" and your name will appear as it does in your profile. |
