"Starting January 22, 2018, Upgrade Certificates, which are available exclusively for Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members as a Choice Benefit, may now be used to upgrade on Pay with Miles tickets and SkyMiles Companion Certificates in addition to regular retail tickets.

Additionally, Certificate owners can now use an Upgrade Certificate on a companion without having to use one for themselves. So when two SkyMiles Members (one of which has Upgrade Certificates in their account) are traveling together on the same flight—whether in the same reservation or a linked reservation—an Upgrade Certificate can now be used for just one Member*. For example:

• Previously, if a Member was flying to Europe for business in Delta One, and had a companion traveling on the same flight, he/she would not have been able to use an Upgrade Certificate to upgrade the companion to Delta One.
• Now, in the same scenario, the Member will be able to use one Upgrade Certificate to upgrade his/her companion to Delta One as long as the companion is a SkyMiles Member.

Excellent news, however I'm not seeing this mentioned on the link! And I would have appreciated getting an email from DL confirming this! All DMs and PMs should be getting an email from DL confirming this!

Scroll down to "Recent Medallion Member Updates" and it's the first drop menu option. I also agree that DL should provide PMs and DMs some email with these types of updates. (I have this terrible feeling, however, that most PM/DM agents won't know about this change...)

oh, this does seem like Positive news! Agreed would be nice to get an email notification on that. Perhaps its in the works? if not glad I heard about it here.

If PWM can only be used online and we must call in to use upgrade certificates this then means we call in advance for upgrade inventory, go back to the web for PWM and call in again to secure the upgrade?

Great news but I wish I knew this before I cashed in my PM bennie for miles.....

This is actually pretty awesome. I frequently use Paid with Miles and have passed on going to HNL a couple of times because I couldn't combine using that and a upgrade.

Oddly this announcement is no longer on the Delta website. I'm on hold on the Diamond line with someone trying to figure this out and they are saying it's not possible.

Yeah, the representative on the phone pushed it through for me (the waitlist). I told her that while on hold, I read that now it's perfectly OK to use a GUC on a PWM tickets and she sounded genuinely surprised and said she'd look into it.
