Definitely made up.
I've watched a few flights departing in 72 hours process GM upgrades. Very easy to do on EF.

It's a Friday, long weekend, so DL knows people will buy last minute F and is holding seats in some flights but not system wide.

I was flying LAX - SEA 2 weekends ago. Original scheduled flight departing at 9pm got delayed for 2 hours. Seeing that there was no chance for me to clear an upgrade as GM (2 seats left and I was maybe 6th on the list), I said screw it and opted in for an earlier flight leaving at 6:40pm on the Fly Delta app.

I got confirmed for a First Class seat right away, with only one other F seat open. Nobody else cleared the upgrade list which had at least 10 names. That was really strange, but I'm not gonna complain

Reported something similar upthread, except that I was already upgraded to F and had an IRROP, so I was rebooked, went to the upgrade list for around 5 minutes (and wasn't even #1 ) and all suddenly I cleared and the list stayed the same.

Just happened to me again on a cheap award ticket.

I SDC-ed to a flight with 3 F empties and zero available to immediately clear.

Overnight, all 3 F empties are gone - I'm in one of the 3 previously open F seats now - and F shows sold out on the website, and all seats occupied on the seat map.

It's still selling main cabin and C+ so uncertain why it would sell out F again like this with at least 1 RU...but I'll take it...

Without previous knowledge of this time of the year flying domestic, I found that upgrades were much easier during the summer. Most of my flights have been in F but I've noticed many upgrades at the window.

SEA-HNL: Cleared with companion at check in. This was during Hurricane Lane waiver days so the flight was half empty. FC left with 10+ seats open.
HNL-SEA: Cleared with companion right before boarding for last 2 FC seats. Funny thing was that we were #2 and #3 on the list and somehow jumped over #1 . The flight was completely full, and we had 3 more adults and 1 lap infant with us. Gate agent was very nice and upgraded the rest of my part to E comfort in the same row.

Back in March I did SEA-KOA and HNL-SEA. Both times I was upgraded to E comfort at check in with companion.

I fly Biz/FC normally anyways but the times I've bought econ, FO has done me pretty good.

for whatever the reason, ATL-LAX typically has more open F seats then LAX-ATL. I'm 3 days out with 12 open F seats and no love as PM.

Missed a LAX/DTW upgrade Friday on a U fare with a RUC applied. I know I was on a lower fare but weird there were four others ahead of me that would have an RUC waitlisted unless the agent didn't apply the RUC correct.

So I really have not much knowledge of Delta and chances of any upgrades so with that in mind here is my question..
I booked a trip for my mom and I on Delta for this coming January 18-22.

I currently have no status but was looking at possibly doing a status match since I have gold with AA and it says I can do the match and get complimentary Silver with Delta for 3 months. My question is what, if anything, will the be good for on that trip?
I already have the Delta Platinum Amex so boarding and bags are taken care of. Does Delta upgrade on International flights, will Silver even put us anywhere on an upgrade list? Just trying to see if it is worth doing a match just for this trip. Also, I booked the trip on points, so not sure if that plays a role in answers. We are just main cabin. The only upside I saw is that we can pick preferred seats anytime and the comfort+ at T-24? is that correct?

The comfort plus are priced at $86 and $135 right now each, so that would be a nice advantage.
Any chance we might even score a delta one upgrade ( i know i know wishful thinking!!)
