Dinner on Red Eye?!
Did Delta really started offering dinner on a red eye or is Delta.com being Delta.com again?

DL only provides dinner on a handful of redeyes, mostly those going to JFK, as they always have. What you are seeing is likely accurate.
Most redeyes (i.e. SEA-ATL, SEA-DTW) still do not provide meal service despite advertising that all flights over 1,500 miles will have a fresh full meal service https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...rst-class.html |
30 years ago the Big D had a meal service on red eyes. They used to have hot sandwiches or a chef's salad up front. I know that this is not relevant to today, but it does bring back memories.

I recently got a decent cold antipasto plate on my IAH-SLC flight (SkyWest CRJ 700, which I believe they took out the ovens years ago) which would be perfect for the red eyes. That some cold meats (turkey, Italian ham, salami, olives, crostini) and a tiramisu dessert. Was nice snack (though it was suppose to be a dinner, but better than a cold sandwich).

My recent HNL-SLC red eye said "Dinner" too but it was really more of a snack service.

Do the LAX-ATL redeyes get anything? Website says snacks but it is over 1,500 miles...annoying if not given they advertise fresh food on all flights over 1,500
Also, I assume the 930 pm JFK-LAX in D1 gets the full meal service? Anyone tried this one recently? Would like to know if I should eat in the lounge prior to departure. Thanks! |
I did SFO-JFK in D1 about a year ago and the 9:30-10pm departure had dinner service, but if I recall it was more like the express international D1 dinner service where everything was served on one tray rather than the individual course servings. Also as I recall the menu options were more limited than the normal dinner menu.

Delta's meal policy is very unfair. Non-meal time flights and red-eye flight are no cheaper than meal flights. Every flight meeting the distance requirement should get a meal.

The last time I flew the 9 pm East Coast departure, it was the full menu served across the multiple courses. But that was about 2 years ago on that particular time. Wondering if it's changed since then (the West Coast red eye technically leaves 3-4 hours later than the East Coast one, so I understand the bifurcation in service approach - but I wish they would more transparently lay this out!) Then subtract the cost of the meal from the ticket. They should lower the crew wages on red eyes since all they do is stop the jump seat from running away. |

But, I do like to get some protein and such in the evenings so I can recharge. It would be nice if Delta could do this so I don't have to bother with getting food on the way - can just go right to my flight, eat something quickly that's not laden with carbs, fat, or sodium and pre-packaged, and get some rest before rinsing and repeating the next day. If my purchased F fares over 1,500 miles continue to not have fresh food available, as the website promises, I will continue to call them out on it - either they should update their catering to match their commitment online, or update the website to match the sub-par meal timing system they have in place now. |
